I too am thinking about a Stumpjumper mainly for trails but would appreciate your collective wisdom on whether it would be up to the odd DH run at Gawton/Cwm Carn etc - not its primary prupose but for when I need a good adrenaline fix!
Thanks

Ummmm the stummpy is a great bike, but I would consider the Commencal Meta 5.5 UK which is on sale at Lesuire Lakes for below the bottom end of your budget at £1,600...which is a saving of £600 notes. The UK eddition has designed for the wet muddy conditions of the UK. great spec including SLX and XT, drive train XT brakes and hubs, RP2 shock and Fox Float 140 RL 15mm forks..shod with Maxxis high rollers....bargain if you ask me and you have £400 to spend on new kit !!0

thanks for the advice but i was looking for something with 0% finance over six months, but the Commencal Meta does look a great bike.0

Im also looking to buy a stumpjumper comp and my local dealers are doing 10% value of the bike worth of specialized gear free.
But like the rest of you im checking what other options are out there.Iv considered, lapeirre zesty and Commencal Meta 5.5 Trek fuel
The lapierre gets great reviews but not so great warrenty. Iv had problems with trek warranty before! Commencal is nice but, i keep going back to the stumpjumper as ive always wanted one.0 -
I wouldn't swap my Stumpy FSR Comp (2010), it's great as you can set the rear suspension to either Fully Open, Locked Out or Pro Pedal depending on the terrain and this has been great for trail riding in Afan - South Wales and the Ridgeway in Oxfordshire.0

+1
Love it, brilliant bike and wouldn't change it for anythingGT XC1 - the harder you ride it, the better it is
Stumpy FSR 2010 - Rides over everything and everyone0 -
L Lakes would also do the finance...a better spec and the Meta gets rave reviews...I had an 07 and it was great0

2010 Stumpy expert here, really like it. Admitted its 'just another Stumpy' but you see so many of them for a reason.0

i think i will get the stumpy i cant wait0

Just been through this decision process myself although I ended up upping my budget considerably  (see sig)
Anyways, I also test rode a Trek Fuel EX8 2010 which was also very nice and within my original £2000 budget. I wanted the longer travel and the brain which is why I went for the Stumpy in the end.
Also, if you have all the kit you need already, they'll probably give you 10% off of the bike rather than having the 10% in free accessories2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon

HI new to this site and am moving up from my 2006 stumpy ht.
After a few comments re stumpies and getting air
Tried a stumpy expert (both medium and large i'm 5.8") around llandegla - was brilliant for 95% of my riding - the 5% not so good was it felt nose havy on the jumpy bits. i.e i try to jump and and end up hitting the ground at 45 degrees. japnese figther pilot comes to mind - foo fighters.
One thing to note was I was hitting the trails at speed and on my HT stumpy i'd be in A&E now - it got me out of trouble brilliantly.
So could either be the bikes set up re geometry, ME or i'm trying stuff i have no right too - (i'm at my mid life lets say.)
I'm OK on the misses Marin rocky ridge on the red jumps (haven't done black on it yet) and when i had a quick go on an orange five on a bit of black that seemed to fly.
I intend to up my game this year and try the mountains more and other trails like brenin - llandegla black route has been completed numerious times.
Due to cycle scheme restrictions I can't go for an orange on it, which seem to fit my bill for the fun parts straight away, might be different once riden it from the bottom of a hill though.
So I was looking at the stumpy expert - with a view to do a few proper mountains and when i come across drops and more techical bits on trails that involves raising the front etc take them in my stride.
Was also looking at the savings made re cycle scheme to get lessons with them but I don't want to do this is i'm trying to get blood out of a stone. The stone coul dbe me or the bike :-)
So can the stumpy fly and I just need to learn the bike and the skills to do it, which i'm more than prepared to do OR should I forget the cycle scheme and go for an orange.
any experience or advice appriciated.2010 stumpy expert
