I was looking at bikes available around £1000 and was wondering which ones come with SRAM Rival groupo? I know of the Boardman Team Carbon and Planet-X SL Pro Carbon, but is there anymore? If not, which of the two would you recommend?
Thanks

  • I have the boardman, it's amazing! Best value for money by far.

I have a Planet X. Like it a lot. Does the new Boardman have BB30?

Though I have to say, we are running a book as to how long it will take for a certain person to post "CAAD9" :

Shop around. I got a Kinesis Racelight KR810 from my LBS with Rival. Albeit it had a basic wheelset.
  • TALK TO YOUR LOCAL BIKE SHOP ABOUT SWAPPING GROUPSETS OVER.

ALL THE GOOD ONES WILL DO THIS

Then you can ge a good Ali framed bike insetead of a BAD Carbon one from Bike in box merchants

Yes, the boardman and PX are horrid, cheap bikes as he said.

All the reviews online and in mags are wrong!

Not to mention most places are unlikely to swap a gruppo over, they're then left with an OE groupset with a retail value of far less than a new gruppo to shift.

Planet X has a great groupset (got an Ultegra one) and a great set of wheels (albeit a cheap set). The contact points let it down on the standard model but all the important bits are good.

They were helpful and easy to contact and contacted me if things weren't in stock etc. And a seriously quick turnaround.

Shame they don't do Pink SRAM builds. I guess if a superlight bike is what you're after then the PX is a good choice for £999. If you get it on cyclescheme it works out as an absolute steal. About £600.

I agree about the pink sram build.
Nonetheless, after much prevarication over what bike to buy i a have just plumped for the white.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
  • I built up a Ribble Sportive Racing last year for £900 with Rival, including Easton stem and bars but not wheels, post or saddle so I reckon a £1000 build would be possible.

That's a very good deal - great work .... when did you get it? .... and which LBS (if you don't mind me asking)? I would have jumped at that myself. :D

The drawback of the boardman - is (for me) the look of thing - it doesn't look very exotic. The advantage is you can try before you buy - any problems take it back.

The disadvantage of the PX - is that you can not try before you buy - but its look are slightly more appealing.

If your confident of what size you want - or are more concerned about the bike itself, rather than appearance - that should point you in the right direction.
