New wheels and going tubeless

Need some help gwtting some new wheels... I ride 95% of the time on road so I want something light and quick rolling. Just like everyone I don't want to spend to much, budget sits around 350-400 including tyres

Found some Mavic Crossmax ST at JEJames for £299 - 2007 model.

I want to run tubeless so will be getting new tyres as well

Questions are....

- Is a discounted 2007 wheel as good as good as a cheaper 2010 wheel?

- tubeless, is it worth it??

You can get lighter and better for that budget.

Consider a custom build ie XTR hubs on Stans rims.

It can have advantages, and are many ways of doing it ie UST, tubeless ready rims and full on DIY conversions.

Have a look at a website called Just Riding Along.

I'm running Stans Olympic rims on Sun Ringle Dirty Flea hubs with DT Rev spokes - around 1500g and sweet rolling

    Try someone like www.justridingalong.com

They do a custom build with Stans ZTR Alpine rims, DT Rev spokes and Stans ZTR hubs (which are basically American Classic hubs) and you'll have a light wheelset under 1400g for around £350-400. That's cracking value for such a strong and light set of hoops

Oh and don't worry about UST tyres - I've run Nobby nics, Racing Ralphs, Dirty Dans all just with yellow tape and Stans tubeless milk with no problems

thanks for the advice guys. Although I'm not a weight weenie I'm loving the sound of 2500g wheels!

    2500g including tyres!!!

I wasn't a weight weenie until I felt the difference in acceleration and climbing. Now it's weight loss all the way. I'm going to ditch my DX 647 pedals next - they might be great but weigh over a pound so they're going.

Also worth checking out Hope Hoops, after about a year of ignoring them assuming they're expensive I just realised they're £250 a pair with a great range of rims, and sensible build. Pro 2 hubs on Flows with Comp spokes, I think, for me. Bit heavier than you're looking at but the 355 wheelset might be suitable. Or maybe even the Pro 3 SP-XC set if you want to go lighter (but weaker)

As for tubeless, I'm a convert, but I won't mess around with "ghetto" again, proper rims only for me. I use standard tyres on tubeless ready rims and it works a charm.

Or alternatively... If you ride on the road 95% of the time, this:
