Mendip area trail routes

I'm looking for some steady-ish routes in the Mendip area. Longleat, Gare Hill, Salisbury plain would also be good.

    There's lots of good trails radiating around Beacon Batch and Black Down in the Mendip hills - Cheddar is a good base.

    Use OS Explorer 141. Also the bonus ride in Vertebrate Graphics' S. West MTBing is the Cheddar Challenge 29km and 480m of climbing. Its a great ride includes a couple of steep climbs can be a bit slippy in places this time of year but should be rideable.

    I've only ridden Salisbury Plain once - at about this time of year trails were just a claggy chalky mess - played havoc with my drivetrain - others may know better routes.
