Hi
I have been looking at purchasing a full suss. I have been looking at various options, but finally narrowed it down to a Trek Ex8 (2010 model) or possibly a Zesty 314 if I dont like the Trek after a demo ride.
Anhyway just prior to contact my LBS to arrange a demo ride on the Ex8, I stubbled accross a Trek Ex9 (2009 model) for sale in my size for £1700.00.
This seemed a bit of a bargain, and is quite tempting! I was just hoping whether any of you may be able to offer any advice on which would be the better purchase?
I do realise that the 2010 model Treks have the upgraded rear shock (Fox Float RP-2 DRCV) which is supposed to be excellent!
Opinions or advice would be greatly apprciated.
Many Thanks

hi there wms_gti, just to let you know
i just got a 2010 Ex8 on monday went out straight away on my local trail and wit no suspension set up correctly really enjoyed the bike. im upgrading from a boardman comp so this is my first full susser. reading online reviews before i bought the bike alot of positives about it.
But then today on a ride up a steep section i snapped the chain  could just be one of those things. the rear shock was very responsive and on some big climbs i was able to keep peadaling so for a full suss its not that heavier than my old hardtail.
i bought the pearl white bike and i have to say it looks class in the flesh you wont be disapponted if you buy either of these bikes so it will just come down to your own preference.
best of luck wit new bike...
andy.if at first you dont succeed.....get off and push the bike!!!!0 -
i have a 2009 EX9, it's a nice bike £1700 is a bit more than I paid for mine,
i guess it depends what you value most, dual air rear shock, vs upgraded group set and brakes,
but the RP23 works fine (for me at least)0 -
Thanks for your replies.
Andy2003 - This will be my first full suss too. I was looking at the Pearl white one, and it does looks awesome.
mano7042 - I do value the upgraded group set and brakes, and was mostly attracted to the £300 saving over the Ex8. Was just trying to find out what peoples view were on whether I was better streching to £2k for the Ex8 (2010) as planned or go for the Ex9 am save £300 for other stuff I need, i.e new spd etc...
Any more view anyone?
Thank you0 -
the 2010 ex8 has the new E2 headtube and the DRCV shock.
Neither are on the 09 Ex9 These make a huge difference to the ride and make the 2010 EX8 a better buyRacing is life - everything else is just waiting0 -
I love mine to bits, as alot of reviews say the DRCV shock alone is worth the extra over an 09 model.0

I just got my 2009 EX8 frame replaced under warranty (paint defect) for a 2010 EX9. It feels like a different bike. The DRCV is amazing, the most active bike I have ever ridden by miles. The press fit bottom bracket is mega stiff and so is the E2 head tube. If I were you I would forget the 2009 options and go for a 2010.0
