Planet X Carbon with SRAM Rival or + £100 for Ultegra 6700

Was convinced for SRAM rival - so much so I have ordered today....but wondering if I should change to Ultegra. It's another £100 but I then have total say over the build (which I don't on the SRAM bike) so can spec things like bar width , stem length , crank length, etc.

What's the verdict on Ultegra 6700 vs Rival ?

With a free choice I might be inclined to go for a 11-28 (rathern than 12-25) , 42 cm bars ..and if I went Large instead of x Large then longer stem, longer cranks. All possible on ultegra and not on rival build.

...or is this a case of too much choice leading to confusion ??

I say SRAM Rival and Ultegra are more or less the same but if for £100 you can choose the right size stem, handlebars and cassette then its worth paying that extra.

    +1
    Would agree.

Would the pre-fixed stem bar sizes be wrong for you then?
If only one or the other is out then you could choose Rival and put the £100 towards the cost of a new bar/stem or both and sell the ones you have.
    Works both ways.

  • As usual it's just a case of too much choice ...

I'd probably be fine with the 44cm bars, but would ideally prefer 42cm bars. I'd also consider an 11-28 rather than the 12-25 on the XL frame, and possibly a 110mm stem rather than std 120mm. .

If I went with Large frame then it's cassette and crank length that I'd change.

I'm inclined to think i'm messing with too many variables and would be better sticking with Rival ( it's lighter for a start I believe) and if I do want to make some changes then sell on the old kit to fund any replacements.

    That'd work....I prefer SRAM too.
Cheaper to replace one or two bits like them than a whole groupset for the one you really wanted.
