This has probably been answered before, but would like a more up to date answer. Just wondering how many of you commute on your MTB or roadie for that matter to work/college/Uni etc.
I'm really considering at the moment, as my motorbike is currently off the road. Now i work as a student Nurse, i don't have shower facilities at work, but there is an area to get changed. Its also roughly 8.8 miles mainly roads or 12 miles for a bit of dirt tracks.

I do. Currently doing 11 miles each way, taking in over 1000ft of climbing. I use either a Focus Mares CX bike, a Ribble TT bike, or the Giant NRS MTB.

I currently commute in 4 miles each way, downhill going into work, and uphill coming back.

I will hopefully be moving soon which will mean about 7/8 miles each way, also into work on a hill and back up to get home, only this hill goes on for a lot longer

If you're in Bolton and you're saying you have no showers at work, I'd probably skip on the dirt trails, as where you are, the dirt will be mud!

I commute on my HT when I can get my a$$ out of bed early enough

Going by google maps it's 5.5 miles each way but taking into account the Goss Moor Trail and 2 pieces of scrubland, there's only 1.5 miles of road to suffer :D

my commute is only 2.8 - 3 miles each way depending on the route.

downhill on the way to work and uphill on the way home, because i live and work near the coast i normally get head wind during one of the trip..(mostly on the way home... :( )

  • I have a choice of 2 routes.

1.8 miles along the road, 56ft of climb and 400ft descent on the way in, 56ft of descent and 400ft climb on the way back.

    OR

8.4 miles off road, with 750ft of climb and 1000ft of descent (way in only)

Three times a week - 12.5 mile very hilly ride (approx 50/50 off road/road) on my HT MTB.

Not sure the actual ascent/descent distance but there are three massive hills to climb!

Would love to cycle to work... except it's 18 miles each way :-(

And that's from Luddenden, nr Halifax over to Colne in East Lancs, It's up over Widdop Moor from Hebden Bridge. The road rises up to from 100m up to 400m at each end, with plenty of up and down in between. :-(

I envy you peeps who get to ride off-road every day to work... assuming you have hot showers at the end :-)

Done it a couple of times on my road bike but it's 25 miles and the least time I spend travelling through Wolverhampton* the better.

Ride to work on my FS (see sig) every day.. although, it probably can't be considered a commute, it's about 1.5 miles each way, mostly flat, apart from one little incline past a cemetary. All on road (sucks).

Usually, when the weather is good though, as I work next to the basingstoke canal, I'll go for a 10 + mile spin after work too. Especially as the days are getting longer again!

Ride to work 7 miles through Glasgow on a slick shod HT a couple of times a week at the mo. Some times I ride the full sus for a laugh mind you right now five inches of travel front an rear is probably about right for the road conditions!

9 miles each way every weekday, on my old rigid mtb ...or 95% of time, today is one of those bad days where it's been impossible due to client meetings. I'm flagging and I can tell I haven't done any exercise this morning, feel grumpy and lethargic!

I drive my van to my local cycling spot which happens to be on my 10 mile drive to work. Stop off for a hour ish ride and then drive to work for a nice hot free shower.
