i may need to replace my disc brake and am looking at
Hayes El Camino, will I get away with a 60mm disc rotor or do I need an 85 it needs to be on the cheap at the moment.

It depends how heavy you are and what riding you do. for xc, for most people, 160mm is fine. you could have a 185mm rotor upfornt, and a 160 rear0

Not all forks and frames will take a bigger rotor either.
Most forks do take a 180mm though. Just don't forget the adaptor0
