OK it`s not the first thread i have posted lately regarding pedals but i want lots of information on whats what.
I have very little information regarding, quality, longevity and of course cleat wear.
Cleat covers?.
I have no apparent knee problems.
The pedals i`m considering are
LOOK Keo,Spring or blades.
Time RSX or ICLICK.
SPEEDPLAY zero.
I have searched the net, read reviews and reports but would like to hear it from real peaple who use them daily/weekly.

Look - for - easy to use - against - squeaky cleats wear out quickly
Time - for - natural feel / durable cleats (RSX) - against - vague engagement
Speedplay - for - free float / small size - against - bearing/cleat durability / expenseMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
I've used Look and Time pedals, but now have switched to Shimano ones and love them!
I have the cheaper ones ( level I think) and they have been great, ok they are not the lightest but they do me fine (and they are metal, I have snapped 2 X pairs of Time and 1 pair of look pedals)Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -
Snapped them OMG how?
I know shimano`s are solid and all but i want to keep a light weight theme with the build
Thanks for in put Montydog, JesseD0 -

completely agree with the comments on Look and Time. Time's engagement may be vague, but I've never pulled my foot out of a Time pedal. I have pulled my foot out of a Look pedal though..
No thoughts on speedplay, as I've never used them.0 -

Snapped both sets of time in the same place (at front), and the Looks the same. THe Shimano's I have are 105 level I think and are great but if you are worried about weight then you can spend the extra and get Ultegra or DA versions which are lighter.
Speedplay look interesting, well if they are good enough for George Hiincapie I supposeObsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -
Been using Look's for years.....never had any issues.
I used Shimano's in the past too, found them slightly more awkward to engage than the Look's....so for me it's Look... 8)Planet X RT-57 custom build0 -
I like Look Keos - find them very secure and the cleats last a reasonable amount of time - they are better in both respects than the old Looks which some of the above comments may be referring to.
Have a mate who found Speedplay helped him with knee issues and likes them, never used them myself.

There is a separate thread about speedplay pedals running at the moment which you might find useful.
I switched to speedplay zero's a few years ago (from looks) and would not want to switch back now. I love the fact you can tailor the amount of float to suit your style, the minimalist looks are great, and I have never pulled a foot out of speedplay's either. The double sided entry means they are a doddle to engage too.
On the negative side, they require a bit more maintenance that look pedals, in particular the job of replacing the grease in the axel is a messy affair. You need to pay close attention to the cleats to make sure they stay clean and oiled too, otherwise engaging and removing your foot from the pedal becomes a bit vague. Other negatives - should you need spares they are very expensive, although experience tells me the cleats last longer than the look style plastic affairs and screws can be replaced by non-speedplay brands much cheaper.
On the whole, any negatives are pretty minor for me and are outweighed by the positives. From this forum it seems that those that switch usually stay with Speedplay, with usually only a small number of negative comments.
If you do investigate this option I would advise against the Zero Light Action pedals. These have a huge amount of float but no screws to limit float. I really did not enjoy this amount of free float, the pedal action was way too vague for me and pullingfeet out required more ankle twist which was a bit un-nerving .0 -
What is it with you guys and your inability to make a decision?
For things like pedals, I simply don't get all the angst about what to try. They are not expensive by any means, especially when you go shopping on Ebay or whatever. Buy a pair of each type used, try them out and see what works. The ones you don't like, sell again.
I've got Look Keo Carbons (fine), Look CX6 Carbon (fine), Time Impact Pro Magnesium (fine), Ritchey Micro V4 (ok) Shimano SPD road pedals, and Shimano XTR MTB pedals (both fine).
Not tried Speedplay, because the cleats are LUDICROUSLY expensive... A bit like computer printers, the initial price seems reasonable, but the cost of the consumables is ridiculously high.
Not tried the upper end of the Shimano road range as I don't have enough shoes to fit yet another style of cleat to anything!Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -

I'm with you all the way on this. What's the problem??? They are pedals, they pretty much look the same, work the same, have the same amount of float, do the same thing.
To think that there is much in the way of DIFFERENCE in these things is pretty naive.0 -

For starters Shimano and Look are the same concept.
Time (Impact / RXS) are fractionally different and for me are the best system out there. Well the Impacts were, I'm less impressed with the cheapo plastic tat that Time try and pass off as pedals now, although I still prefer them to the others, simply for the harder wearing brass cleats. As forTime's engagement may be vague
Speedplay are just a rip-off.0 -
Speedplay are just a rip-off.[/quote]
On what experience do you base that generalisation?
I have used speedplays for years and they have been really robust, and the cleats last far longer than the plastic look versions. They may have a higher initial cost that some Look or time pedals, but the longevity of use makes it a worthwhile investment I suggest?0 -
I use both Time and Look and much prefer the Time pedals the shoe plates last a lot longer and don't squeak. Also my feet rub on my cranks when I've got overshoes on with the Look pedals.0
