cold stomach?

not exactly a road based topic but its a general question.
basically after riding i notice how cold my stomach is, its stinging-like when your fingers or feet warm up, and when i lift my top up my stomach area is bright red. only there though, not my chest not my arms.
any thoughts as to why this could be? i mean its not as if i go around with my stomach hanging out, ive tried tucking my top in, ive worn so many layers my arms are melting, yet my stomach still freezes.
any thoughts as to why this may be? before i go out and buy some waist/stomach wrap thing:P
cheers

Have you tried a windproof top/jacket? Are you wearing a wicking layer?0

Do you have a little spare around the middle? Not meaning to sound rude, it's just these days I carry a little body fat infront that I simply never had for the first 35 years. (only a small layer of padding but excess nonetheless). I have noticed exactly the same this winter. It gets absolutely freezing to touch. I have been perfectly warm on the bike and absolutely astonished at discovering icy skin when changing.
As I have been comfortable on the ride and this has caused no issues, I just accept this as my body diverting blood flow to where needed. If you need to address discomfort, I would actually look elsewhere on your body. Are hands head and feet warm enough? If they aren't add layers there. Windproofs may help, I don't find them good insulators though, just good at a tackling windchill.0 -
guilliano ::: er its a helly hanson base layer, probably more plastic then pure cotton:P not sure what its made of no
morstar ::: ah dont worry about it:P not really no, id say im pretty much on the slim side:P i have the usual amount of pinch fat like a centimetre kinda thing, and last time i went docs they said my body fat index was great.
i just cant figure it out, i mean ive tried tucking all my layers in just incase it was just the wind going up tshirts but that did nothing.
when i pull top up it looks as if ive just got a big rash across stomach only its not a rash??0 -
oh and as far as other parts of the body go, i could be sweating buckets, and my stomach is still cold, only area i need to adress is perminatly cold feet.0

No idea then.... the only thing that comes to mind is poor circulation but that would normally affect hands and feet or legs and arms first.0
-
cheers anyway.
yeah i have no idea either:P no one i no that i have asked no either so im running out of ideas and people to ask.
cheers

This happens to me when it's proper cold, windproof top and base layer or not :shock:0

Happens to me, too.
Like morstar, I just put it down to blood flow being re-directed. Even the 'old fella' suffers this, too, but soon return to normal temperature (without pain).
Can't say it has bothered me, though.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
I doubt there is anything to worry about, sounds normal for some, bum and the tops of the thighs are other places that go the same way, some bods regulate in different ways as needed.0

I get this as well for most of the year actually. Only time I don't really get it is when it is very warm, say mid-Summer.
I found it quite disconcerting at first.
However, from the above it seems like I should not worry.0 -
ok, cheers all
il just have to live with it, its not killed me yet so what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger hey? or colder in my case:P
cheers for the help

Josh - what material is your base layer made of?
I have the same problem, but noticed a marked improvement when I wear a Merino wool base layer vs. a man-made material base layer.0 -
Indeed,a natural fibre works better for some.0

omg i get this too and in summer morning rides rest of me warm but tummy ice cold and red i wear cold amour protection base tops but still cold tummy i dont think its any thing to worry about but glad theres others out there that have this proplem would be good to know why mind0

morstar got it spot on (IMO)
its a fatty area and the blood flow has been going where it's needed.
i get it when it real cold.0 -
Another +1 for cold stomach. Warm, cold, whatever. Just blood moving to where it's needed most.0
-
I get it too.
However when I use thermal bib tights the cut finishes up and over the stomach area reducing the wind chill.0
