Having problems with my 3 ring x 8 speed set up

I was having problems indexing but after tweaking its nice and crisp going up & down through the gears, I have new problem though, it's now skipping / jumping when in gear, it's fine when in the stand but under load the middle 3 or 4 gears want to skip, I've tried find tunning with the barrel ajuster but just can't get all the gears to behave.

Worn parts? How old are they?

I've just fitted a new chain and I though I'd sort my gears at the same time, the crank is about 4 months old, the casset & derailleur are 18 months old and have seen a lot of mud

    Definatly the cassette.

Mine did this. Thought I'll put it into the shop while having lunch at glentres. Told them about it and they said have you changed the cassette at the same time as the chain. Ummmm no

And I am meant to be doing work experience with them in October and I couldn't even remember to change a damn cassette

You should USUALLY change a cassette and a chain at the same time, if you keep on top of it you dont need to do both just the chain, but most average bikers should be doing both.

I got shot down totally last time i said the above on this forum, but it is true.

I agree - if you change the chain before it has fully stretched you may get 3 chains to a cassette.

This is why I recommend cheap chains and change often.

Might be worth a shot but have a look at the rear wheel hub, is it tight? I have had this problem and noticed a bit of play in the rear wheel. Tightened up the hub and the gear skipping under load dissapeared.
