I'm getting a new bike. After nearly a year of enforced inactivity I've saved a fortune and I'd like to buy a new 'best bike'.

About me. My goals are sportives/climbs here and abroad. Most of my riding is commuting and laps of RP + weekends on longer rides/sportives. I was 200+ miles a week average through 2008. I'm 6'2" and weigh 88kg (normally ~85kg) so am no lightweight.

I've just been sized up at my LBS. I had a shortlist of a few bike most of which were knocked back due to not quite a perfect fit. Unfortunately I seem to be between sizes for most manufacturers. The Time RXR however is absulotely perfect other than 1mm short on the top tube. So unless I choose a complete custom that looks like the one.

I'd like the built to be as light as possible without compromising durability. This bike will do a lot of miles and will be very well looked after, but I do not want to deal with compnent failure. Wear I can deal with, things snapping off will upset me. The weight weenie in me would love the bike to come in under 6.8kg though :)

The RXR comes with ISP, forks and stem. With the option of bars too.

It will be fitted with Campag, probably Super Record. I have wheels and a powertap already so it makes sense to stay with campagnolo. I'll probably run it on my Shamals before upgrading later.

I've jsut bought Time I-clic pedals on the Wilier so will probably go with another pair of those.

I have a Selle Italia saddle I am more or less happy with so thought about their SLR.

However, when it comes to bars, I have no idea. The bars that come with the RXR look very nice, but are quite heavy. I have massive hands, but haven't found my current bars uncomfortable (ITM Vista).

I guess I need to decide on full SR or whether I should change cranks, brakes, cables etc. Is it better stay with one groupset or mix it up?

So, any pointers or general advice would be great!

I'd stick with super record for your groupset. Bars, alloy or carbon? Ergo or traditional. Cinelli RAM or the Control Tech Mono comp are lovely looking things if you're after a carbon mono bar.

Stick with full groupset Super Record. And carry some of those baby wipes Nap D recommends to clean off bystander's drool when you park up at the coffee shop.
