Routes around Birmingham

I've searched for previous threads about routes in Birmingham and the same areas keep turning up - namely the Lickey Hills. I'm looking to see if there are other routes in the area (preferably in riding distance and not requiring a car journey from just outside of the city centre).
Just looking for areas good for general riding, doesn't need to be anything technical or downhill focussed. Anyone got any ideas? Looking at an A-Z of Birmingham there seems to be a fair bit of green, but a lot of it seems to be golf courses and thus unlikely to make me popular with the locals!
Thanks.
