Hi, a few of us are looking to do a route of 2.5k miles around the coastline of Britain, has anyone had any experience of this? We are looking of legs between 120 - 150 miles a day, either September this year or April next. (Date variation depending on the task ahead work commitments and funding)

We are hoping to raise a few bob for help the heroes.

Any pointers would be welcomed, also if there are any Military riders out there than would like to join us PM me.
Furthermore if you would like to join in on any legs then let me know and I will info you of times dates ect.
Thanks.

    Roger,
Nick Hand did this last year, I meet him North of Newcastle as he was travelling south. Great guy with some amazing photography. He had a very useful blog / twitter with almost daily reports . You may find some of this useful. Check out: www.slowcoast.co.uk

    good luck with the trip.

You are probably looking at thousands of pieces of local knowledge to make use of the best coastal access routes.
Suggest you use some kind of geo-tagged post-it board, maybe based on googlemaps. Google do have a cycle-route feature where people can post.

Have a look around and ask about on this forum because I'am sure someone did it last (but the whole coastline) year and was writing regular updates on here

I read a book somewhile ago about someone cycling round all the coast of scotland. Here's a link:-

a decent read IIRC. He didn't do it in one stint, rather several interrupted legs.

I'd like to do something like this myself and I have met at least two people who were cycling around Britain. However I'm not an expert on around Britain rides, but 2500km won't get you around the coast of England, Scotland and Wales.

What is the full distance for a bike ride around our island - i.e. always taking the road that is nearest to the coast?

Apols for part of my previous post - roger the cat - said 2500 miles, I made a mistake and read 2500 kilometres.

np m8, we can all have a blonde moment, I myself have arctic blonde moments,

I am still wrestling with the idea of 160hrs + in the saddle over 3 weeks
