whilst I haven't gone through the website in that much detail it gives the impression that he's doing it on a TT bike and carrying no kit. I always understood the round-the-world record to be one where you carry all your gear and are self supported.

Wouldn't be a suprise if he did smash the record by doing it this way! Congrats due if he does do it as it's a fantastic acheivement but prehaps we might see the forming of 2 seperate records such as the "hi-tech/modern" vs "sportsman" records as seen with the Hour record.

I think he might be doing it on a standard road bike (well not a TT bike anyway) and from what I gather from one of the videos I think he's trying to go under 100 days. But as ollieda says I think Mark Beumont (as neither of the other two records have been confirmed yet) will still keep his record as an unsuppourted rider and a new one will be created for this attempt. From watching some of the videos he seems to be doing it for the Thai king for whatever reason.

Nick Sanders set his record on a road bike carrying minimal kit so it can be done.

I'd love to see the round the world record held again by a gifted cyclist (as Alan Bates appears to be based on his cycling exploits to date).

I was a bit confused about the doing it for the Thai king bit though.
    More problems but still living....

I have just copied this of vin cox's facebook page

Fastest Circumnavigation Of The World By Bicycle'2010

    (The Challengers)

Vin Cox (unsupported attempt) Target (150 days)

Alan Bate (fully supported) Target (99 days)

Glen Burmeister (unsupported attempt) Target (120 days)

Michael Hartleben & John Yates (unsupported attempt) Target (120 days)

I wonder why it only seems to be Brits trying to take it on :?

I rather think Mr Beaumont's efforts have been an inspiration to many.
Not just the acheivement but the documentary too. Now others want a slice of the action.

Vin Cox is planning a race in a year or so's time I believe.
