Suggestions please
Quirky
Posts: 123
I'm in the market for a road bike after deciding I need something faster than my hybrid, however, I tried my Brothers Boardman Team carbon yesterday and I think I'd prefer something with slighty less 'racing' geometry, I was looking at the Planet X but have no idea how this compares. So help please and I'm open to any other suggestions

Cannondale Synapse I think has longer head tube and not-quite-so-steep angles... lovely things in plenty of different spec levels too, from basic alloy to full Hi Modulus carbon with Di2.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
grab a test ride on a few. It all depends on your budget, body shape, what kind of rides you want to do, and a good few other variables.
Have a look at a CAAD 8 or 9. Not too racey and a good starter bike.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Really difficuly to get into this world as it is baffling with talk of geometry etc. A little less racy seems to be being marketted as sportive-type bikes at the moment, so the Ribble mentioned above is a good example, BUT it still depends on fit. A decent bike fitting will take into account your desire for a more relaxed set-up and will suggest something accordingly. Go to your nearest LBS that does fittings and have a chat. Don't go crazy with your first purchase as you may develop the bug and want to upgrade or move onto a more racy machine in the near future.0

Felt Z series bikes are well worth a check.

I assume you have a £1000 budget or so?Planet X RT-57 custom build0 -
get a bike fit done, it will save you hours of speculation and a lot of cost in the long term as you know what is likely to fit you0

Go into a couple of local bike shops (not car part sellers) and ask the staff and test ride.
Get properly measured and fitted so you know you have the right bike.
Measuring should be on a frame of some sort (not bike) and take at least 30 minutes - but it is the best 30 minutes you could spendRacing is life - everything else is just waiting0
