Don't think you'll get that response!

Never used them, and having read many peoples thoughts, suspect I never will.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Sorry to burst your bubble, mate, but...

I've not had any luck with them. They seem to be one of those shops that offer lots of stuff at really good prices online, but don't have any stock when you make your order!
If it's in the shop, and you can take it away with you, then that's a different story.

Yes, bought a bike from them once. Arrived 5/6 days later, higher spec than the one I ordered but I wasn't going to argue.
I think a lot of their bad press comes from their stock information. Stuff that is not in stock is often left on the website so when you order something you get an email a few days later saying it's unavailable. Best to ring them up and check first.

Never bought a bicycle from them, but I have ordered parts from them twice without any problems.

+1 Thats my general impression - they talk a good game. I guess if they do have what you want and what they say they have / can get then they might be OK. Also they only ever seem to stock outlandish sizes (maybe because its unlikely anybody will ask) So if you're 6' 6" and do happen to want a 2006 63cm Bianchi in pink...........

:? hmmm, im looking for a beginners bike under £400.

(Under £300 would be even better! yes i am tight :P )

Was thinking about a Gaint Defy 4, but realistically they are just too expensive for me. Any good sites out there that are relatively cheap? Stocking the sort of bikes suitable for a beginner?

cheap functional bikes at a bargain price, edinburgh cycles, shop or mail order, good firm and I have no connection whatsoever.
Nation Clarion, the club for all reasons.
  • I bought a new helmet through them in the January sales. To be fair to them, they did say at the time it wouldn't come in until late feb/early March, but when it hadn't arrived a couple of weeks ago I gave them a call. The answer was "oh, yes, that came in today, we'll post it now..."

Yes, I'm sure it had only just arrived. What a coincidence!

Ordered a Felt F4 2008 from them last year and it had the 07 Ksyrium equipe wheels on it instead of the 80g lighter 08 versions.
But the bike arrived ok and no probs for a good price so I was happy.

They were polite and friendly on the phone to me too.....

I've had mixed success with them, won't be using again in the future. Have many similar stories sadly!

Thanks everyone for your input. seeing good and bad so did some searching hoping to find a site where i can get something at the bottom end of my budget, seeing as i need to get a few other bits as well.

I came across what i think might be a winner, for a good starter bike:

    http://www.thegreenbikecompany.co.uk/bi ... ductID=379

Review on this site gave it 3.5 Stars, which when you consider the price isnt a bad place to start at all imo

Sooo, Now i have to ask has anyone used www.thegreenbikecompany.co.uk ? sorry to be a pain, but dont want to part with a few hundread notes to a site ive got no real info from. (apart from what their own page says! :P )

This is a better spec and the same price http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/sport-1-54-57-69567468/
It does away with the butterfly shifters on the handlebar inners and its give s you propper Shimano STI shifters that are built into the brake levers as one unit.

Winstanley are ok. I don't think they stock much, then get the stuff as it's ordered.
Don't use if you're in a rush, but otherwise ok and quite cheap.
