Split sidewall - terminal?

I just came home from a ride and noticed a split in the sidewall of my Conti 4000s rear tyre. Its about 3mm and runs vertically from rim to outer edge. Its right through the tyre wall as I have a little inner tube hernia poking though :(

I've never had a split before so are these repairable with a patch or is it asking for trouble and time to replace it? Rather p'd off as its only done 150 miles and was supposed to be durable. I guess thats the luck of the draw...

Many thanks

cheers - not sure what would indicate a fault in the tyre?

Other issue is I bought them at Xmas to go with some new wheels but only fitted them 10 days ago. Hard to prove they dont have 3 months winter use on them :(

The tyre can't be repaired, and if you continue to ride on it it'll only be a matter of time before you have a blowout.

I've had that twice with GP4000 tyres. Take photos of the damaged area and email Continental customer support (email address on their website). They replaced my last one. If only 150 miles ridden that should NOT happen, its potentially very dangerous (my rear tyre blew at around 30mph downhill, fortunately on a straight so I was able to pull over safely) and they shouldn't mess about with giving you a replacement.

Customer services asked for it back and will inspect it - not sure if that gives me any chance or not, but we'll see.....

i know MTB is diferent, but i got a 15-20mm tear in the side of my tyre, 1 large puncture patch and a small strip of Gorrila duck tape later and its as good as new.. been using it for 3 months of super hard DH/AM/trail riding. no probs... but saying that speed is far lower in MTB, and i run like 25 PSI so...
