Sudden back pain

I think I'm in the right section of the forum!

So I'm out yesterday on my recent Cadex build - a bike which I have done a good few miles on already - and my lower back (slightly to the left) starts to ache. It's relieved by sitting up and this morning, I have no indication of it ever being painful i.e. I'm not stiff or sore.

Any idea what could have caused this? I had a bit of rear derailleur problem so I'm hoping I tweaked something when leaning over the bike to remedy the fault, rather than this being a bike fit issue... My fit seems and looks okay: I'm not stretched out and my leg extension is good.

Could saddle choice cause it? Reason I ask is because I don't feel comfortable on the current saddle and am in the market for a new one.

Thanks

Ben

Ben don't let the buying of a new saddle get between you and the doc. That's a complaint called avoidancitis  Go see the doc. It could be a dozen things. Hope you get it sorted.

try a few hamstring (well loads) of hamstring stretches - if tight these pull on you back.- these have been the causeof numerous back problems for me.

Oh don't worry if it persists I will see the doc. After posting, I recalled that I took my mum to B&Q for some tiles... it's possible I tweaked something when loading the trolley/car!

Can you reccommend any in particular?

I find back twists good at relieving aches. Lie on the floor on your back. Bring your legs up, bent at 90 degrees at the knee with the shin part of the leg parallel to the floor and the thigh bit perpendicular to it. Then let your legs fall to the right or to the left, maintaining the 90 degree angle. Keep your back and shoulders as flat to the floor as possible. This stretches the back and core muscles around your lower torso. Do 1 side and then the other. Hold for 30 seconds each time. Sometimes this makes your back crack slightly, but don't worry about that. Usually when I get up after this I feel more flexible and relaxed.

As soon as you come in afer a ride. Stand if front of the loo with the lid down. Make sure your hips are point directly in front on - put one lef on the bog - then lean forward from the the waist - you should feel a next stretch - from the back of your knee to your ass - hold it for at least 30 senconds

.....whilst by the bog ......you may as well take a dump ...dunno if that will help your back - but its always nice after a ride.
