Dont suppose any mac experts out there can help with something....
I Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and iTunes 9.03
Now.... I dont mind iTunes getting album artwork.... BUT... I have a NAS running which I access wirelessly and when I browse all my music folders Ive put on there its permanently getting cover artwork and I dont want it to. I mean in the finder just browsing through.
I dont mind iTunes getting it when I open something but its so daft for the other browsing it gets on my nerves... anyway of stopping it.
Also, is there any way if I double-click and open a track from one of these folders, which then opens iTunes to play it, to not have itunes start going off and playing other tracks that are in iTunes when that track is finished???
Ta for any pointers.

itunes -> Preferences -> General -> uncheck "Automatically retrieve CD names" - Maybe.
itunes -> Preferences -> Store -> uncheck "Automatically download missing Album Artwork" - Very likely.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Both of those already unchecked... thats what i would have thought but its still doing it.0

Are you using coverflow as a browsing style?
For playback, either stop after the track (I hadn't noticed that it does that either) or right click to play using Quicktime, or similar.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Can you explain more clearly what is happening. Do you mean that when you look on the remote drive through finder it is displaying artwork and you dont want it to...or that if there is no artwork it is then searching for it...
Do you play the music from the remote drive through itunes?0 -
If i view it through the finder and there is no artwork then its finding it and dropping it on... this is in the finder without itunes runnig at all.
Yeah, I just double click the tracks and they then open in itunes. Which is over the top for me... is there anything 'lighter' than itunes for this... wanna fix the folder thing though cos im browsing through so much and its pointless to me what its doing with the artwork.0 -
Even though you are clicking through finder the files are opening in itunes (even if the itunes window isn't open) There will be the little "dot" on the dock under the itunes icon.
What you need to do is get the files to open with a different application as default. Quicktime as suggested is favourite. I tried this just now and it doesnt look for artwork. Still looking for a way of making it the default though...
I'll get back to you...0 -
Ah ta... that'll be great if its sorted... Im trying to find a way to tether to my blackberry without using the tether app cos u have to buy it... pairing the blackberry seems impossible at the moment though!!
Hmmm... adventures with macs0 -
Ok as you say you want something "lighter" than itunes. Found a neat little free app called vox
download it here:
http://www.voxapp.net/ (top right corner, stable version)
when its installed in your applications folder (drag it in) right click on any music file, go to get info, look down to the "open with" selector, choose vox. Then click the change all button below (this makes sure that any more files of this type also open with vox)
job done...hopefully...0 -
I've got the "open with Quicktime" sussed.
Right click any music track and go to "open with".
Choose "other" (I know you have Quicktime as an option but ignore it).
You can then choose Quicktime from your "Applications" folder and tick the "Always open with" option.
Should be it 8)None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -

that only works for the specific track you chose, to do it for all tracks of that type (eg mp3) you need to do the get info bit as above...
The reason i didn't tell him to use quicktime is that when the track is loaded you have to press play in quicktime every time which is very annoying...0 -
well... Vox is pretty neat, ta for that BUT ...the finder problem is still there as desccribed0

Right DONE... it was under view folder options for that folder and untick the preview checkbox.
Sorted now.... chame vox doesnt have playlist ability but nevermind.0 -
Try PocketMac for the Blackberry...
I had a BB and it worked fine with my Mac.0 -
Regarding the playing thing, just click once to highlight and press the spacebar. A mini player opens up (Not itunes) and it'll play thru that. Very fast and easy. Also works with word documents, pictures etc0
