Hello to all.

I have never owned a bike over £200 and now feel it is time to purchase my first serious rig. Even though I know nothing about basic bicycle maintenance, I have read MBUK for a while and feel I know a bit about components. So I have narrowed it down to these two bikes (btw I have £1400 to spend) as they have been given good reviews. However, I still cant make a decision. I will ride singletrack, probably clocking a few miles, i like to drop off things (i.e rocks etc) and like to hit jumps. I will mainly be going to Glentress to ride and want a bike capable of all that place has to offer (freeride, jumps, drops, singletrack and more). Maybe my riding preferences are to wide and need narrowed but thats what I am keeping in mind when i decide (with your help I hope !).

Anyways, I've wrote enough so looking foward to hearing your thoughts!

P.S. If you know of any other bikes that would suit me let me know.

ThankYouVeryMuch :D

For this riding the Anthem is too little bike - you need something a bit burlier.

Luckily the Marin fits this bill - heavier, but much tougher for the riding you plan.

I've got the marin you're speaking about, went from an okay hardtail to this and the difference is night and day, I ride around peak district and the odd trail centre and it's breezed over everything so far, sounds perfect for what you're after. Absolute bargain if you can pick one up for under 1500.

Anthem great for the single track
    Wolf ridge great for freeride
my personal recommendation is to go for a specialized at that price either the fsrxc or the pitch two of the greatest bikes for under 1500 in my opinion
