Some last snaps of the Mantra in it's current state. XT front mech fitted and Blue DMR grips swopped for Grey ones.
However, biggest change will be the impending delivery of this:
Plan is to swop the Mantra frame for the Enduro one. Just as soon as Parcel Force deliver it, that is!0 -
The Enduro frame finally landed yesterday and I spend last night/this morning swopping the bits from one frame to another:
The stem/spacer set-up needs adjusted, but apart from that it should be ok for a run out tomorrow0 -
Looking good - I love that frame.0
-
Was a bargain for the money I picked it up for. I'd like something more modern, but for something similar specced it'd be too much money. This will do me for now0
-
Had the first ride out on the Enduro today. The head angle is a bit too steep and was making the steering feel sloppy. So I'll flip the linkage back round which should help. if it's still too steep then i might have to look in to getting a different set of forks. Quite tempted to get the rear shock TST tuned too. Will have to see :?0

loving the new specialized. i bet thats a fairly drastic change from the old saracen thou.0
-
Yup, it is a bit different! The Saracen was a great frame, but I've always fancied a full suss bike and since demo-ing a modern Enduro I knew it was the way forward.
Took a couple of pics out around Whinlatter today:
I'm going to send the shock off to be serviced this week. It's not fully extending, which isn't helping the uber slack head tube angle of the bike. Off to TFT it goes and hopefully when it's back it'll be ready for a winter of riding0 -
Shock is booked in for a repair and service on Thursday and I should have it back for Friday. Fingers crossed TFT can work their magic0
-
Well, after the hassle I had with Parcel Force delivering the frame, I now have problems with the shock. The guy on eBay had explained the lock-out on the shock didn't work, but TFT have found that the shock needs a new air can and shaft. Thankfully, the guy on ebay was kind enough to give me some money back to help pay for the repairs. So, I won't have my shock back until next week, but atleast it'll be fully operational again. It's an expensive do!0
-
Well, TFT have worked their magic and the shock has been returned. It's now sitting at the correct length, which is around 1.5" longer than before! Hopefully this will sort the head tube angle out!
The shock:
What was replaced:
Pretty much everything replaced then! I'm just glad that even though this shock is 8 years old that spares are still readily available.0 -
Shock fitted:
I've flipped the linkage since the picture to raise the b/b and steepen the headangle further. Having the shock fixed and completely changed the geometry of the bike and was definitely money well spent. Just need to get out on it now!0 -
Finally took the Enduro out for a blast today...and it's fantastic. It climbs really well and there's no pedal bob. Decends like a dream too. I'm really happy with it
New seatpost next I think as the current one doesn't gab the saddle rails very well. I bought a Specialized BG saddle off eBay yesterday too. It's slimmer than the current saddle and is black and red so will match the bike nicely.0 -
New saddle and Superstar Red Titanium qr's arrived today and promptly fitted:
Skewers are a lot lighter than the Hope ones I had fitted. Saddle looks a lot better too.0 -
I was going to buy a longer disc hose for the rear brake as it wasn't long enough to follow the correct route on the frame. When adding up the price of the hose and a bleeding kit, I found a second hand XTR disc brake for the same price. So hopefully this will be on it's way to me before the weekend:
Looks very nice, and has titanium backed pads. Fancy 8)0 -
Loving the thread.0

XTR brake landed today. What a work of art. Just a shame that the front brake is put to shame by it. Will have to save up for a matching front XTR brake now. Also in need of an IS-to-IS 180mm rear disc adapter.0
-
Well, done a few more things recently! Really must stop for a few months now and just get riding, but offers just keep popping up, haha.
I got a 180F and a 160R 'flame' discs from Superstar components. These are really well made and only weigh 115g & 98g's each.
I also sold my old Tektro brakes which had left me with no front brake... It would have been a shame to fit anything but a matching from brake to the rear! I got a quote from a local shop, as opposed to going down the CRC/Merlin/Wiggle route, and they beat all the prices I could find. Ordered and paid for on Monday (they didn't have one in stock) and it landed on my desk at work on Thursday. Stirling effort! Thanks Scotby Cycles, Carlisle.
Also got a proper Specialized chainstay protector from eBay for £3.
That's all for now0 -
Starting to turn out really nice. Once you get some proper miles on the superstar rotors post back up what you think of them. Really want to know,.0
-
Put around ten miles in yesterday in the snow. Bike was flawless, everything functioned perfectly dispite it being -11. Tyres work really well in the 1"-2" deep snow.

Discs are going really well. Kept nice and straight through the last 6 weeks or so and are still looking like new. Really pleased with them0 -
Just a thought, when your RL itchy shock packs up, you can replace with an RP23 in a 7.875 x 2.25 (200/57) as its a good replacement for the 195/50 RL.0
-
Thanks for that. After spending just under £180 getting this one back to 'as new' condition it'd hopefully be a long time off before it needs a new shock.
I've split the bike up now and frame is for sale on eBay. I've transferred some of the parts to a Cinder Cone frame I've been working on, as a light-weight hardtail for 2011. Will post up some pictures shortly.0
