Try them out, and see what fits best though.
On paper little in it - though the Hardrock has th better fork.0 -
Hi
Why those two bikes? I assume its down to budget, would you consider anything else?0 -
I'd go for the Hardrock nicer frame (imo) better Fork though the Trek will have nice Bontrager bits and bobs, go see both in person then decide0

Budget and i'm much more inclined to use local shops,
www.summitcycles.co.uk
saying that I've just noticed that they also supply Orange, Marin and Giant
I could go upto £650 absolute max!
little lookey later.......
Orange G2

Marin doesnt seem to have anything near the price range (500-650)
Giant Talon 1 or 2

I've alway being under the impression that Orange made great bikes and that giant sold half standard sub £500 bikes,
Maybe I'm wrong in thinking this?!
of course more input would be greatly appreciated![0 -

Well, the Giant Terrago and some of the XTC models were great budget bikes. Unfortunately the cheaper Talons are let down with awful forks.
The G2 is not bad for the money, but also look at the Rockhopper.0 -
orange, just do it, i would, at that price you're getting a good frame, reasonable spec and a good name
£650 on an orange is £650 well spent, i doubt you'd regret it
but that said i suppose you should try some bikes and see which you prefer because you're going to be the one using it0
