New chain and cassette and the rest

Broke my chain yesterday and have been told I need a new cassette as well, although I think my lbs were just trying to make me spend more so will double check that one.

Have seen the "lightest chain in the world" (KMC X9-SL) for £25 on Merlin but wanted to see if anyone has used it? In the back of my head i'm thinking light = weak, which isn't what you want.

Want to upgarde the whole transmission part by part as they wear out and am thinking Shimano XT parts to replace my old Deore LX's. Anyone know the SRAM equivalent or if there's a manufacture that has high quality but is cheaper than the 2 above?

Cheers

The sl chains are very good but certainly not the lightest in the world. However they're as light as is practical and sensible.

I'm putting on when i replace all the worky bits for my drivetrain soon.

The equivelant sram chain would probably be the PC991 hollow link.

Sram equivelant to XT is X.9

How old is the cassette and how long since you last changed the chain? If the answer to either is 18 months or more I'm almost certain you'll need a new cassette (unless the bike hasn't been ridden). 18 months is really very optimistic too.

Unless you have an amazing bike or really need to save 10g get something like the SRAM PG970 cassette and a PC971 chain
