Just watched the programme that was on BBC1 last night and have to say that it was quite impressive how they all did, bearing in mind none of them are serious cyclists in any way, although a couple of them obviously have a reasonable level of fitness. Made me text in my £5.
Anyone else feel inspired to get out there and do somemore cycling? I'll be doing some charity sportives this summer, but no where in the league of what they all did, although will be working up to it one day, just not in one go!!!!!

Are you serious? It was a joke. In my eyes they've deceived the public into thinking they did something special, where as in fact it was something almost anyone could do with minimal or even no training.

+1 Good job on the fundraising though....

Yeah was this the one with Fearne Cotton et al? a complete joke, 50miles per day for 4 days, I used to commute that distance every day.

I actually sent a complaint to the BBC, as the way she talks on radio1, you'd think she'd won the tour.

I think we can safely ignore comments from a man who thinks that
    a) charities are unifomly useless or they would have solved the problems they set out to help by now, and
    b) no one is worthy of sponsorship unless they walk barefoot across the antarctic.

When did 'sponsored bike ride raises > £1m' become a bad thing?

Michael, when exactly was it that you lost your sense of proportion?

Sorry - I agree with amaferanga; massive disappointment in terms of 'achievement' although the level of fundraising was fantastic.

Compared to some other end-to-ends, I felt completely decieved by the hype when I found out how much actual riding each of them had to do. Enough non-celebs to this (and other) rides for charity and complete the whole distance!

Maybe they should have done more training and completed the ride properly. Look at Dallaglio's Cycle Slam for a much better example of this (although this was promoted less and will ulitmately rasie less money).

And the concept of an hour of Fearne and Davina bleating about how tough it was? Sticking pins in my eyes would be a more attractive proposition!

Its not a sense of proportion at all. All i'm saying is yes it was a challenge, just not that big of one, 50 miles per day for 4 days...wow! If anything, I think the way in which they made out that riding a bike is so difficult would put people off cycling.

I question the usage of my licence fee in plastering the whole of Manchester city centre with Cottons face, suggesting that we all run a mile.

The Izzard and Dallagio events were much bigger, much greater achievements (especially izzard) but got much less press coverage.

It's not about the money they raised, noones doubting that great achievment. What's annoying is that it seems none of them made mucgh effort in preperation and they didn't achieve anything of note riding in 'shifts' like that. Jimmy Carr made it that much worse but none of them were prepared really apart from maybe Kielty. They did suffer though so...

try and keep an open mind and see it from a non cyclist pov

yes they made a big deal out of something which is relatively F ALL to us but for people who do no riding at all, 50 miles a day (albeit in intervals) is fairly daunting and raising £1M is no simple task alone

however, I didnt sponser that ride. the Dallagio was much more of a feat and too be fair I bet that was quite tough. As for Izzard, brilliant..I couldn't have done that, dont have the mentality

The money raised was undoubtably good but ride was a bit of a con. It's a real shame that the BBC isn't showing more of Dallaglio's ride. Now that was a challenge!!

Okay so maybe most of us could do and End to End with a bit of training - but because we aren't celebrities (and so wouldn't get the publicity) we could never hope to raise anywhere near a £1 million pounds

Good on them I say - and I enjoyed watching the show.

At least they know how cold it gets up here in the Highlands at winter ;-)
