I asked Giant for any used, marked frames/bikes to do a Charity ride. Nothing.

    Obviously...I wasn't "Celebrity" enough.

Thoroughly enjoyed this programme. I haven't had such a good rant at the telly for ages.
Only thing worth speaking of in a positive manner was the fantastic Scottish country side.

Well, it raised some money for charity. Better than not doing anything and at least it got some form of publicity for cycling.

  • I can't believe there were so many crashes. Is it that difficult to ride a bike? It's easy, it's it, just like, err, riding a bike...
  • I'm with Taz and Brin.

Yeah they were pretty pampered doing it with the support bus and the people in high vis gear picking them up off the road, but I think people are missing the point.

Stupid pampered celebrities doing something they don't normally do, getting thrown in at the deep end, making themselves look stupid by falling off and doing it to raise money for charity. Which they did, and fair play to them.

Apart from Jimmy Carr who devalued the whole thing by so clearly doing it to simply get himself some publicity. Yeah you can say 'it's all just an act', but he didn't give a toss and made no attempt to grind through it like the others did. I hope he feels just that little bit ashamed of himself after seeing that last night.

Yes, a poor show compared to the others. I think the rest did alright considering that they aren't cyclists - we take that kind of hard grind in unpleasant conditions (-15deg!) as fairly normal, it must have been a real shock to them and it was great to see them coming to terms with it and pushing on through.

I'm becoming a bit of a closet Davina fan these days

Don't think I fancied cycling on those first roads from John'O.

That's it. Spot on. People on here take it for granted because it's just what we do and have done it for long enough to not be surprised by it any more. How the hell must they have felt? And then carried on regardless.

I found myself getting really annoyed when they were doing such a bad job climbing and then falling off but then had the reminder that I've been riding a bike for years. They haven't.

Only caught the end - Kielty almost made my day by coming close to falling as he raised his hands going through the finish

As I've said elsewhere it's not much of a challenge to regular cyclists but for new riders it would be fairly intensive and although they spent a lot of time resting while their team mates rode I wouldn't have fancied being couped up in that bus. The main thing is they made a lot of money for charity.

......and unlike the 'ride' alan shearer and adrian chiles done, it was actually televised so we could see them do it. yeah was funny seeing the look on kielty's face when he realised he wasn't pro enough to raise his hands at finish, he still done good tho, as did davina.
  • I reckon they all made a fantastic effort, well, except for Sir Jimmy of Carr :-)

As a seasoned cyclists it's easy to forget how difficult cycling is when your body isn't cycle-fit.

I can't remember tackling anything like that when I first got the riding bug. And to tackle something like the Kirkstone Pass. in February. at night. (doff's cap)

  • I've never sworn at the TV so much in ages  that'll teach me to turn on the idiot lantern.

Anyone pi55ing and moaning about how much their legs hurt or how tired they were should try living the life of either the Indian street kids or that 11 year old carer

The whiners in the group need to Nut up or shut up - simple as thankfully they weren't all moaners though otherwise the TV would have been defenestrated!

What's his name, the guy from Little Britain, climbing kirkstone pass? He fell off cause he must have being going so slow? You'd think he'd know how to unclip and walk if he really could not do it.

They where only doing 20-30 miles at a time?, think the max speed for a session was like 18mph which is good though, you'd think they'd be doing 100 miles at a time.

I know 20-30 is allot for a beginner but if they paced it they could easily do double that with all the help they had.

You have to give them credit, very little training (except for McCall who apparently owns a Wilier) and who wants to be riding at 4 in the morning.

The only thing that bugged me all of the way on my ride to work this morning was why did someone kit them out with Dolan's and mountain bike helmets wtf combination was that?
