Bike Shops in or around Leeds

I will be visiting North Leeds in a weeks time.
I am looking to test ride and possibly buy a road bike for under £1k.
What bike shops in and around Leeds would you recommend to go to for this level of purchase?
Also, will be travelling back to London so any recommendations for shops near the M1(15 minutes away) between Leeds and London as I might be able to fit in a couple on the way home?
Did a search but could not find a post that had a full list of recommended shops
Many thanks in advance

The best selection is at Saltaire, around 10miles away at All Terrain Cycles. They have a big open plan showroom with 100s of bikes and kit. In the main, I think you are looking at Trek, Giant, Orbea, and Kinesis...their website is quite comprehensive, take a look.
Chevin Cycles at Otley (around 10miles north of leeds) also has a good selection, mainly stocking Trek and Cannondale.
Stif in Headingley mainly stock MTB's dont turn up expecting to walk away with a bike as stock is limited.
There is also an Edinburgh Cycles somewhere up Chapel Alterton way. Never been to that one, but if it is anything like the one in Manchester they stock a good range, mainly Specialized.
If you are looking for a true Yorkshire bike, Planet X cycles are based in Doncaster. I have a planet X Uncle John, which whilst techinally a cyclocross bike can be spec'ed to make it a very versatile and comfortable road bike as well. I love mine...as if you take a look at the planet x website, you'll see that £1000 will buy you a good bike (depending on the deals, but you'll almost certainly get a better spec than the big manufacturers). They also do a similar road specific frame. I don't buy into the Carbon hype, but it looks like you could have your pick both Carbon or Alu framesets for that price.

Mrs Squill got her Orbea from there, and they spend over an hour and a half with her trying bikes, suggesting different positions/geometry etc.
Really helpful, really keen to make sure she got the best fit! All in all, I was very impressed.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. Just what I wanted.
Have already tried a Giant Defy 2 and was impressed with that. Now want to try 3 or 4 others makes and then make a decision.
Will happily buy from a shop if they spend the time assisting my choice like they did for Mrs Squill.0 -

Stif are no longer in Headingely. They've moved to Summerbridge near Harrogate.0 -
If you go to Allterraincycles ask for someone called "Dan" he is very helpful.
I was in on saturday and they have a few high end Giants in the sale.
Plus you get a 10% discount card when you buy a bike from them which comes in handy when you want to buy any accessories0 -
Bob Jackson in Bramley is worth a look and another vote for Woodrups. They are only a few miles apart from each other. Triangle in Horsforth sell some nice stuff at the right money - probably the most bespoke service there as well (can do proper fitting).
All Terrain are pretty good as well. Tend to use it as my LBS.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Triangle in Horsforth (North Leeds) sell Viner's, Kuota's and Bianchi's. Great service as well.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/
