I need to take my bike to Italy in April, first time taking it on a plane, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a bike box or bag? I was considering this http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=B0090, but not sure if I need a hard case. Guessing it's the way to go? Any suggestions?

Cheers!

I have one of these (branded as a Polaris but exactly the same) & travelled on planes 3 or 4 times last year with practically no issues. The only issue I had is with the wheel skewers - there are holes in the bag where you put the skewers through the wheel & secure them outside the bag & I found one of the skewer was bent when I picked up the bag at my destination, presumably by rough baggge handling - luckily only a cheapo skewer but not good - so now I just put the wheels in bags, with lots of padding, & forget about the skewer fixings.
It's what I would call "rigid" rather than "hard" - has a very small amount of flex in it. It's really light compared with somethng like a Scicon (sp?), so you won't be hammered by excess baggage charges.
