Cleaning V-Brakes???

Right, my v-brakes are not very strong at the moment. What do i use to clean them up and the rims? The rims need a clean to get grease and oil off which is not helping at all. They used to be good and the pads are fairly new. Thanks.

    soap and water and a brush.

    if the rims are really bad after a good scrub a mavic rim rubber might be an idea.
