Hi, looking at getting a second set of wheels to enable me to run 2 different types of tires, one set (the original Bontrager SSR wheels) will be running Marathon Plus, and the new wheels will be running my Vittoria PAVES.

For the new wheelset i'm torn between the Mavic Aksiums and the Fulcrum 7's.

I've had a scoot around the net and it seems like the Fulcrum is the more durable wheel?

Which would you go for and why?

Not too bothered about weight, as i'm 17stone, its longevity/durability i'm after, don't want to have to replace the wheels 6 months down the line...

I've ran both Aksiums (2008) and Racing 7s (2008). In hindsight I'd never have bought the Fulcrums. The rear has gone out of true twice, the front once, they're an absolute pain to fit tyres (a variety from Michelin, Vittoria, Vredestein and Conti') to and the freehub makes a silly football rattle noise.

Though I have had to have the Aksium rear trued once they've generally been worked harder, been more resilient, don't make such a silly noise when freewheeling and tyres are easier to fit.

I have Racing 3s and DT Swiss 1850s which have loud freehubs but the noise they emit is one of quality, not that of a freebee you'd get in a Happy Meal.

I've had both. Not much difference to be honest. No problems with either going out of true, though I did have a freehub problem on the Fulcrums which was sorted under warranty. I'd get the wheels that you prefer the look of or can get cheapest.
    More problems but still living....
