Race Face Ride or Evolve

My bottom braket is shot on my old shimano carnkset and the cranks are pretty rubbish for me so I am going to buy a new crankset soon (funds allowing)
Question is do I get the Race Face Ride XC for 65 quid or do I get the Evolve XC for a lot more?
I will be using the dul ring with bash and I will be looking to fit a chain guide at some point as well.
I am aware that the bottom braket won't last as long so I do relise I will have to get a new one at some point but I already know that will be hope
Thanks for the help

or the SLX."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
i'd be even more temted by this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SHIMANO-DEORE-CHAINSET-EXTERNAL-BB-FCM590E422L_W0QQitemZ330399685095QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item4ced5b19e7
thats the one i got and at £45 it's one of the best bargains on my bike atm. i am very pleased with mine, bottom bracket is very smooth but the crank arms do get easily rubbed. mine has quite a big rub but i don't really care as it works perfectly0 -
Thanks but I'm trying to get rid of the shimano on my bike.
Nothing against them, just prefer other makes0 -
You're daft mate The Deore and SLX are better than what you're looking at. BBs last longer, cranks are lighter... Nothing wrong with the Raceface ones but they're just not on the same page.
PS want to buy a slightly used set of Ride XCs They're the wrong colour for my bikes. The BB's dying but then, it's a raceface BB, it was dying the second it came out of the box.Uncompromising extremist0 -
yeah, i wouldn't really bother with cheap raceface, for value for money, shimano are pretty good, i'd love me a nice expensive set of raceface atlas cranks though, mmmm0

Bring it along on Saturday and I'll see.
As I said I know the bb are bollox but I will just get a hope one0 -
SO you'd spend 65 on a chainset, then 60 on a BB?
Might as well get an XT chainset!0 -

Actually I would spend 80 quid on a BB since I want the ceramic one.
What I want to know is whether it is woth the extra cash for the evolve XC cranks or just get the ride xc.
I don't care about finish because I would get some crankskins if I was0 -
This?

Well, you would save about 70g.
But the SLX is cheaper, lighter, stiffer, stronger with a better bottom bracket....0 -

Yes that but in black and 170mm.
I am ignoring anything to do with BB's since I will get a hope one.
I have ridden the Evolves on a Chameleon and they felt stiff enough. Just want to know if they are much better than the ride's0 -
It is not worth the extra money over the ride for the 70g weight loss, especially if you can get for £65. But then your £65 quid chainset will be £145 chainset, and the Hope BBs are heavier than standard ones too.
To be perfectly frank, I think you must be a bit mad to buy a lump like this, and add a 80 quid BB straight away. Huge cost, when there are chainsets out there that are better for less money with good bottom brackets. The Evolve plus Hope is near XTR money!!!
But your money! ;-)0 -
I won't be buying it straight away. Just when the raceface one dies.
I don't really care about 100g weight difference because I ain't no lightweight
I prefer raceface kit to shimano (looks apart from anything else) and as you said its my money.
I just wanted to know which was better out of those two.
Please no one else say about others. Just want one of these as I am perfectly aware of the other options0 -
Then the Evolve is better - that is why it costs more. Lighter for the same strength.
But if not bothered about weight, save some money and get the Ride.0 -
I meant cost wise (is it worth the extra)
Will probably go for the ride then.
Thanks sonic even if it take a while to get to it :roll:0 -
Just remembered about the Respond cranks.
Would they be overkill or are they worth more than double the price?0 -
It is a much heavier, stronger crank for DH and FR.0
-
It wouldn't make using a chain guide easier?
I would be willing to sacrifice some weight for ease of use.
Sorry for all the questions0 -

nope.
they are all as easy as each other.
what is it going on?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Havn't decided yet.
Either a
On-one 456
or
Santa Cruz Chameleon
or
Cove Stiffee0 -

none of those bikes need any heavy duty stuff.
christ we use SLX for DH racing.
I would say this topic is over until you are more focus on the build.
like why have a heavy duty crankset and some DH rims on a 456?
you dont."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I know what other components are going on it.
I am getting a new frame for my birthday and transfering the parts from my current one onto that (I am aware I will need some new things like seatpost etc.)
Only don't know which frame because I will have to see what is available at the time0 -
Haha, beat it into him!0

That might be a little harsh But he can expect some funny looks from Dave Who Rides An Anthem, that's almost as bad.Uncompromising extremist0

So are you going against Andy Wardman himself?
He runs the Evolve XC on his Chameleon
Also I'm not a particular fan of Giant so I don't care what Dave says. Next your going to tell me off for fitting a Hope M4. The Hub are but I love it0 -

He could ride rings round me on a kid's bike. In fact he has
But I'd still rather trust the bike nerds... Didn't like his chameleon much, I rode into a rosebush on it.Uncompromising extremist0 -

It's better than either of your Cotics.
It has Fox's not silly silly Revs :roll:0
