Weighing in at 19 stone, (6'6") I wonder if I need more robust wheels for the road than standard. Any advise appreciated.

dt 1.2 (or 585 ) are very strong rims.

Well, people will no doubt recommend handbuilts but it depends how much you want to fork out.
Prolite Como wheels are a factory built wheel and can be had for £90 a pair. They are strong and suited for the heavier rider. Fairly aero too with 30mm rims.
Decent pair of handbuilts = probably twice the price0 -
Cheers for tips I will investigate both.0

dt are pricey though. anything with a deepish aero rim 27-30mm will be strong. as will more spokes ie 28, 32, or high 36.0

Try the cheaper alternative to the Prolite Comos, the Quest Comos at £60 a pair. The won't go out of true believe me!0 -
Fulcrum Racing 7s are very strong and pretty inexpensive.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Prolite and Quest Comos are the same wheels with different stickers I believe.
The Quest version USED TO BE £60 over a year ago.
they are £85 now plus p+p.
The Prolites are a few quid more (£93 @ Ribble)0 -
