Truativ Firex Crank Removal

ok where am i going wrong - have used hex key - released the self extracting bolt thingy and the rubber washer but still cant free the non drive crank arm

do i need another tool to release this? dont wanna bust it by thwacking with mallet

    Are there, or were there, 2 hex bolts visible, a larger one (10mm?) with a smaller one (8mm?) underneath it? If so, put it all back together and undo the smaller bolt. It will push against the larger one and extract the crank, hence 'self extracting'.

    if not then you need an ISIS crank puller.

  • If your undoing the smaller hex, make sure it doesn't bite agianst the bigger one and undo them both. I had to take the outer one off first and spray a bit of lube on the inside surface and refit it, now the inner hex will spin against it rather than unwind both.

    I did this recently with a firex and it is just a case of tapping it with a hammer, I used a block of wood in between.

    Thanks for your time lads, once i read what i wrote back to myself and got to the self extracting bit i called myself a muppet and went to my bike and 'self extracted' i should have deleted the thread- doh
