Mudguard size

In the first of what is likely to be many questions, I'd like to ask a simple question.
I have an MTB with 26" wheels. The rear tyre is 2" or 2.1". The front is 1.75" I think.
I think I'm OK with choosing the width of mudguard that I need, but there seems to be less choice for my wheel size. Would a 28" mudguard be suitable? Or indeed one designed for a 700c wheel/tyre?

If you can find one wide enough, it'll do the job. Best to find the right size if you can though.

Those are brilliant, especially for that price. Just check what width the 'MTB size' actually is first.0 -
Cheers, those look to be correct. I think they're the 26" x 2.1" (max) ones.
What makes a "brilliant" mudguard?
I like the look of these, but no fittings which seems pointless - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT0 -

When it is wet on the ground, I want the mudguards to stop ALL the water being thrown up. Many mudguards actually don't, especially the clip-on ones. SKS do.
I want them to be well made. The bolts should be good quality, the fitting system should be adjustable to fit my bike perfectly and have the guards sitting close to the tyre, which, again, SKS do.
I love SKS guards. If I could fit them onto my nice road bike I would.0 -
I think you've done a grand job of convincing me. And since those ones at Wiggle are a great price, I think I'll grab some.
Thanks.
Next question on the way.....0
