Fox lockout behaviour question

You know when Fox forks are set to lockout... if you push down initially you can feel them lock but if you continue to apply weight to them on mine they begin to slowly compress and you can hear the air hissing out.

Is this normal for these forks - i have nothing to compare them to - used to have rockshox which remained solid when i did this? so wondered if something is wrong?

    Which fox forks are they?

May be that you haven't got the blowoff set high enough, normally a blue adjuster at the bottom of the right leg IIRC.

May be the pro pedal setting like Davehm said.

You normally have four settings I believe, will have to check mine.

Depends on the fork model if you have this or not.

this is normal, lock out after all is just extreme compression damping. Normaly a small amount of oil can still pas through the valve, so it can be sompressed very slowly.... its normal
    I like bikes and stuff
  • The forks are Fox F100 RL's.

There is an obvious resistance there when lockout is activated. just wasn't sure if it was normal for them to be able to compress slowly when under pressure in this mode so to speak.

I've already got a weird fault with them which i've posted about where they make a squealing noise if compressed in lockout.

Think the squealing noise is normal. This is the valves letting go as to prevent the seals popping.

The fox's are not complete lockout. I have Float RP24RLC.
  • Mine never made the squeal to start with then all of a sudden it started and its quite annoying.

Give Mojo a ring see what they say if you think there is a problem.

Mine don't lockout at all now if the bike has been left to stand for a day or so. I have to cycle the forks a fews times and then everything is fine. TFTuned said it was normal for Fox forks to do this with age.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

stumpyjon- that's the oil settling out of the damping system while standing isn't it?
Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.
