Why does he keep saying "Ping" all the time?

Because Carlton is not human. He is in fact a classic typewriter.

Because if he got down wind of the riders, he'd be saying "Pong"...

I have to say he doesn't seem to talk as much nonsense as he used to.

He's got Magnus to keep him calm now - a good choice of co-com IMHO.

  • Great, he didn't say "ping" once in today's coverage. Maybe he's been reading the forum?

    Caise d'espange

he'll say that a few times tomorrow.
It's caisse d'epargne. I like Kirby now though, especially with Magus as co-com.

I can't get past his repeated use of the word "crew". Sorry.
  • I prefer Caisse D'Espagne to the Leakygas of P+P

Bring back Duffers... "When I was with Raleigh, ridin' 'me trike..." etc.

Oh please no. I'd rather listen to the very excitable P+P!

Well, Magnus married a Welsh girl.
So, outta all the bikes he's got, he eventually chose the World's Best "Ride"...

magnus has put the reigns on kirby somewhat..

he is remarkable tolerant of kirby's lack of insight... actually bearable to listen too not least because magnus like to yack detail and knows a lot of the riders

Has everyone forgotten those anecdotes about wet suits and John Terry's wedding shoes? Any race with KK as commentator is compulsive viewing for me.

Phew, at last. A "ping" and a "crew" today!

    You'll be saying "Boom-ooh-yata-tatar..." next !
    Remember the Morcombe/Wise record ?

Was I imagining it or did I detect a soupcon of tension between KK and MB on yesterday's final stage? When Cavendish crashed MB was trying to highlight the fact that Cav's hub seemed to have totally disintegrated whereas KK was arguing the cause of the accident was probably due to Cav hitting some road traffic. Perhaps it was just me but I sensed Magnus wanted to shout "NO NO NO you numpty! Why can't you just listen to me? I'm an ex Paris-Roubaix winner and if I can spot the reason for a crash then don't argue!"

I actually really like listening to both of them. The new Eddie Butler & Brian Moore of cycling.

I like them both, they work well together. Mind you I like Harmon and Kelly too so I must be easy to please given the criticism lumped on the Eurosport guys on these forums.

I have to confess I'm pretty much anyone but the Phil and Paul show.

Thanks for mentioning that - I watched the T-A stage the day I read your post and it was about the only word I heard. Every team was a 'crew', the break was a 'crew' the chasers were (another) crew!!

I think they are a great team - Kirby makes me laugh out loud with his dry sense of humour.

    Keep it up Kirby!

I think Carlton and Magnus are great fun ...I loved their argument about Cav’s crash on Tuesday. Hilarious.
