Shoes and pedals

Hi Guys,
I just blew my budget on getting my new Scott, but neglected to consider shoes and pedals. I do have mountain bike pedals that I can use in the interim, but I would prefer to get the right kit.
I am above average in size and generally destroy cheap pedals. So what would be a strong pedal that wont break the bank. Weight is not a massive issue, I am more concerned about reliability. And the same idea applies to the shoes.....
I have Time pedals on all my mountain bikes but don't really have that sort of budget at the minute. So should I just wait till I am in the cash again or would I be justified in getting something like this http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/shimano- ... 13907.html

I'd probably spend a little more and get something like the shimano 105 pedals - mechanism-wise they're pretty much the same as their higher-spec pedals but a bit heavier. They're very tough so you shouldn't have any problems with them - I've done thousands of miles on them without any issues. They're £38 at CRC:

Saying that the R540's are only £25 at CRC and get a good review, although I've not used them so can't vouch for their reliabilty:
