Some days i go out and think maybe i should have stayed in.

I had just got out and was warming up when i met this couple taking the shopping out
of the car, neither looked until the last minute and crossed the road,i was doing about 20
when that moment happens and you all make eye contact, the woman ran for it and the man luckily stayed still as i went in between them, phew, that was close i swear i felt the rustle of shopping bag against the jersey.

Anyway i carried on and got less than 200 yards when i spot a dead black cat,i stop and check him,no collar, long gone, nothing i can do except tell the vets on return,i carry on
and manage about 6 miles when i see signs in the village that a bike race is on,
i don't race as yet and i didn't know about it so i forget about it.

About 100 yards down the road i feel a bumping from the rear wheel,oh just great a visit from the PF,no probs i thought pull over and a quick change,i quickly find the piece of flint in the tyre and removed it,i got the spare inner tube out which was an old halfords one i had on me and set to work replacing it,what with the wind, stiff fingers and cold i nearly broke my levers getting the tyre off,i have never had so much trouble getting a tyre off.

Then i hear the whoosh of a bike go past, there is an open TT on here today i found out later and it's coming down this road while i fight with the forces of darkness getting a tyre on,many offered help and i was grateful for that, but i could not see any of them stop while racing to help me out,so i carried on.

25 minutes later and 20+ TT's go past and i'm still fighting the tyre feeling like a lemon,i finally i get it all on and take it up the road and the rear wheel goes down again, struth,a second visit from the PF,i have no more tubes and i'm freezing,i make the call i hate making,i don't own a car yet this week my wife has borrowed one and says she will pick me up,i didn't fancy that 10 mile walk in cycling shoes, even though i felt my pride dented at not sorting it all out i managed to laugh about it,what are the chances eh?.

I thought i'd share it anyway. If any in that race saw me and offered help, thanks i hope it
went well.

Anyone else had a similar time?

Had a day almost like that were I had two visits from the PF in about 3 miles then managed to rip the last valve so had to walk home as my wife does not drive.

small plus was that I have mtb shoes was the walk home was not so bad other than walking around with cycling shorts on ( i live in north London ).

Was so looking forward to the ride as well.

No visits from said fairy but I now remember why I normally go out early on weekends.
The onset of clear skies and sunshine certainly brings plenty of dickheads out on the road post noon.
Impreza, Mitsubishi Evo', 3 series convertible owners, silly looking modified Corsa and Astra drivers seem to respond to direct sunlight like worms do to the rain drops.

Serves me right for sleeping in and then watching the Bahrain qualifying first I suppose.

I can laugh now but now at the time as I was doing so well with my training at the time ( getting ready to for the London to Cambridge ).

Have not done much over the winter so have to start again

Ps I now remember that I also had my lo-mo pink top on too, great for being seen but not what you want be walking in

Friday night cycling home from work at 20:00hrs, on a very dark night a 4X4 towing another vehicle on a trailer passes me on a lonely back road and pulls in. i pass, too dark to exchange pleasentries and continue on my way. Just up the road just before pulling onto the very dark cycle path, my front light goes out. Take about 10mins trying to get the basturd working again, meanwhile the 4X4 has unloaded what is an off road vehicle and drives it into the adjacent field. They have a very bright search light which scans round the field, I then hear 3 very loud bangs, gunshots! As its very dark and my light ain't coming back on I decide to proceed up the cycle path following a railway track at one side with a large field on the other. Buggered if the Hunter's dont come into that field and come up from behind me , their light shining/searching in front of them. Christ i was cycling with my head down expecting them to start shooting again, cycling off the track a few times. Anyway they passed me and I could see the guy with the shotgun sitting on the front of the vehicle like something out of Mad Max. They proceeded up the field into the corner and let of a few more shots and then thankfully went down to the far away corner of the field. As there was a little bit more light here from the Cement works I upped the pace and scurried home. I thought my time had come, thoughts of how It could only happen to me "cyclist with no lights, shot on way home from work".
Christ knows what they were hunting?
