Will a 9 speed double front mech shift an 8 speed chain?
I am going to run an 8 speed chain on a 9 speed chainset but i'm not sure if I need a new front mech. I currently have a 9 speed Tiagra front mech. Do I need to get the 8 spped Sora or something similar?

Mech works fine, 8 speed chain won`t work on a 9 speed cassette if you were thinking of doing that? Will be fine with any front chainset though.Jens says "Shut up legs !! "

Thanks Johnny,
Thats great news - saves me a bit of cash.Got to get up to get down0 -
Sorry for the short answer - I was in a bit of a rush - but there's little difference in chain width between 8 and 9 speed - probably within the margin of error of adjustment. The most critical thing with all front mechs is mounting and alignment.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

just run a 9spd chain
shifting at the front will be spot on, as you have a 9spd mech and c/set
and 9spd chain on a 8spd cassette works fineFacts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0
