Best upgrade option

Hi everyone,
I've been thinking about upgrading some of the components on my Specialized Allez Elite 2009 model but amd getting a little confused and unsure which item to upgrade first or if at all. The main reason for upgrading is because I take part in triathlons and would like a slightly more agressive position, so I thought about turning the stem upside down and/or removing some of the headset spacers. I thought this might be a quick and relativly painfree/cheap option. On talking to my local bike shop he thinks the biggest difference would if I upgraded the wheelset from the Stock Mavic’s CXP22 to either Mavic Axiums or some Pro build wheels on 105 hubs. (http://www.cyclelife.com/Product.aspx?p ... 71&pg=1916) However, the bike was reviewed on this site and they said that the crankset would be the first thing to be upgraded? What are people's views as to what I should go for next perhaps??
Thanks in advance for any views/tips/replies!

How about some clip on tri bars for that 'aero' position
Like these;

Personally i'd hold out on up-grading the wheels and save up for some more expensive thus better ones in the future
......That said it's different strokes for different folks and many say that wheels are the most 'noticable' upgrade. I've always had cheapo heavy wheels but am saving for some better ones but keep thinking 'if i wait another month i can afford those ones'-nightmare.winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

I wouldn't upgrade anything. I have two excellent bikes, one of which is 'upgraded' within an inch of it's life.
All I'm left with is the feeling of 'why the hell did I do that?'...0 -

Actually I have 5 nice bikes.
That's the point...
There's nowt wrong with what he has. Unless you have loads of spare cash then don't bother replacing anything until it breaks...
I had loads of spare cash, spent it on bikes, now Ihave zero cash and a feeling of meh. Just hope I don't crash any of them because now I have no cash to do repairs...0 -
Ah the buyers remorse
Don't think considering some open pro's on 105 hubs is quite aproaching your spending power/insanity though Mr.D [/url]winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Even more so then re the 105 hub/open pro - there will be no noticeable benefit whatsoever...0

Upgrade the wheels first.
My 2p.
You'll go faster with some aero or lighter wheels.
The crankset isn't worth changing if it's performing ok.
You can save wait cheaply enough with some light weight tyres/tubes too.
Handlebar, stem, seatpost are the other options.
A lightweight full carbon fork isn't that expensive either.
Loads of options.
I upgraded my Felt F4. Did everything apart from the Frame. I bought the Tarmac SL3 and managed to swap nearly every part onto the SL3......and have a very light bike with top spec parts for about £2k less than you can buy the complete bike.
Good luck0
