Tour of Britain

Hi
I'm working for one of the companies sponsoring this year's Tour of Britain (can't tell you who), and we're looking for ways to make the most of what we do at each stage.
If anyone has some time, I've got some questions for y'all:
* If you went to any of the stages last year, did you visit any of the sponsors' stands?
* Were you given any "freebies"? Were they any good, or just junk?
* Do you think the sponsors presence was beneficial?
* Is there anything you'd like to see happening at events (other than the racing)?
* Will you be going to ToB this year?

To be worthwhile the freebies need to be something that will be kept rather than discarded on the way home.0

I went to the London stage and thought it was impeccably organised and managed - it could maybe have done with some sort of "viewing" gantry at the finish - it was chocker and impossible to see and the police wouldn't let you climb up on the embankment!
In relation to promotional items and freebies - I was given something, but I don't remember what it was really - I remember of all the cycling things that I went to, the Skyride thing was probably the most memorable for freebies - luminous overthing, and giftbags with loads of stuff in. However the rubbish resulting was pretty high I seem to remember.
I think if you are going to give stuff away it should be cycle branded/related and have some sort of use - caps/reflectors/bars/gels etc rather than just bits of plastic tat that will get lobbed into the street/thames.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

* If you went to any of the stages last year, did you visit any of the sponsors' stands? Yes, went to London last year and the year before. Visited sponsors stands on both occasions
* Were you given any "freebies"? Were they any good, or just junk?
The first year my son was given a British Cycling water bottle for which he was very grateful. Just junk last year I think
* Do you think the sponsors presence was beneficial?
I can't really remember any of them so presumably not
* Is there anything you'd like to see happening at events (other than the racing)?
A bit more flash gear on show/sale
* Will you be going to ToB this year?
Yes, London again and possible another if its within cycling distance0 -
* If you went to any of the stages last year, did you visit any of the sponsors' stands? - All of them
* Were you given any "freebies"? Were they any good, or just junk? about 5 bottles of For Goodness Shakes which were very useful. Rest was tat.
* Do you think the sponsors presence was beneficial? - love a trade stand and a freebie
* Is there anything you'd like to see happening at events (other than the racing)? bit more family entertainment
* Will you be going to ToB this year - yes0 -
Gone to a stage finish for the last few years.
Peebles start last year was good as you got to mingle with the riders.Finish in Gretna was poor as there was no room for viewing as the road was very narrow with around 2 meters of verge for viewing Could not remember seeing any sponsors at the finish,as they were over by the hospitality area which was not very accessible.
Drumlanrig finish the year before was OK and had a good selection of sponsors, and The Clan Trials Team.It turned into a mud bath though!
Glasgow Green the year before that was very good as there was a lot to do for the kids and the riders could be seen coming through the park a little more than the normal sprint to the line.
In the Pru-Tour years(1999) there was a great finish in Edinburgh that was a few laps that went along Princess Street and up the Mound (Wet cobbles ) then back down past Waverley Station
Kids came back with some freebies,(from Glasgow Green 2007?)but the only ones I remember are bike locks which they still use today,so were of some use!
I will be watching the ToB this year (as long as there is a scottish stage)
Regards

Nope went to the London stage last year, and the year before that, when saw part of a stage near Reading (all great days out) but I've never bothered going to a sponsors' stand! Mostly because they all seem pretty busy and I don't want t miss any racing though.skinnypunter wrote:* Were you given any "freebies"? Were they any good, or just junk?
Probably, can't remember anything especially though other than a poster thing I got from e-on in 2006s London stage. I would think the best thing for freebies is food though, other than that good freebies are very difficult to do as a company.skinnypunter wrote:* Do you think the sponsors presence was beneficial?
Yes, other than the fact that they provide vital support to the race, I think that generally it does give quite a lot of exposure in city centres, probably relatively cheaplyskinnypunter wrote:* Is there anything you'd like to see happening at events (other than the racing)?
Cheerleaders? Maybe a warm up race for Kiddies, and perhaps 3/4 cats!skinnypunter wrote:* Will you be going to ToB this year?

* If you went to any of the stages last year, did you visit any of the sponsors' stands?
No - couldn't see any from where I was and I had a good spot, so why leave it?
* Were you given any "freebies"? Were they any good, or just junk?
No
* Do you think the sponsors presence was beneficial?
If it keeps the race going then most certainly. Doesn't detract from it either way.
* Is there anything you'd like to see happening at events (other than the racing)?
No
* Will you be going to ToB this year?
Depends on the route.0
