OT: My pro tour (sportive season)

OK entertain me here. A little bit more light-hearted than my previous thread.
So, with my birthday looming, I think it is safe to say that I won't be riding as a professional cyclist and winning the Tour de France this year, maybe next year. This doesn't however mean I cannot treat the 'sportive season' as my very own Pro-cycling season. The dragon-ride, for example, being the Milan Sanremo.
There are some pro-races that carry more presteige than others. Likewise there are some sportives, here that do the same.
If you had to liken the sportives, here to monuments, grand tours etc based on prestige or just your impression of them, what would they be?
*Disclaimer* Yes I know that the very nautre of a Sportive is not the same as stage race but just for fun, make the comparison based on your impression or the reputation of both.
And if you still can't perhaps you need to get laid...

This is the commuting section that you seemingly want to destroy
Firstly it was turning it into cake stop, now you want to discuss sportives here instead of the sportive section
Yet only the other day you were complaining about their not being enough sections on the board. What difference does it make to you as you just post anything in this one section irrespective of its content or the fact that there are already relevant sectionsWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

Feck me you're miserable.
OK Spen, you win.
You could however, choose not to read my posts or any that begin with OT.
It's amazing this doesn't generate an equal response from you: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... 75&start=0Food Chain number = 4

The silly commuter sportives thread is at least about commuters riding sportives, so has some tenuous link to this section...
Nevermind, its an interesting post so I don't really care where its posted.
Hell of the Ashdown = Paris Roubaix? Early season, hellish, muddy, one for the tough guys.
King of the Downs = Flanders? Very long, and some surprisingly nasty climbs in there.
Fred Whitton = Queen stage in the tour - brutally tough.
Dragon Ride = Lombardy? Long, rolling, usually decent weather.
Milan-San Remo = Milan San Remo, I'll be riding it a week tomorrow! :P0 -

Alternatively you could co operate with all the other forum users and post things where they belong.
Is it too much trouble for you to post things in the sections designed for themWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

I thought this was the Paris Roubaix equivalent http://www.rapha.cc/hell-of-the-north-1104100 -
Spen, why do you do it to yourself? We all know you don't really approve of non-commuting threads in the Commuting section, but given that the Forum is ruthlessly democratic, and a thread will die very quickly if no-one posts, you repeatedly posting on DDD's threads is just going to make them hang around longer.
Personally, I've never known the Commuting section any other way, so am not too bothered by OT threads, but I do see your point and even I thought the "What Virgin package?" a step too far; but I just didn't read it and eventually it went away, no harm done.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! So the thread about Gnomes isn't an issue fo anyone? No? Didn't think so. Only the one's DDD makes...
At the time of writing this: My other commuting related thread has made two pages, so the Universe has balanced itself I'm sure.
For what it's worth rjsterry, I respect your post.
Anyway.
For me the big England Sportives are:
Hell of Ashdown
Dragonride
Magnificat
New Forest
Fred Whitton

I think a lot of th epeople who turn out for sportives are also cycle commuters, hence a discussion about sportives here is perfectly relevant. A lot of the editorial content of Cycling Plus magazine (who provide this forum) is about sportives, commuting and recreational road riding....thats because they have a very similar group of participants.Cannondale Supersix / CAAD9 / Boardman 9.0 / Benotto 30000

Here's the truth
Commuting is a relevatively straight forward pursuit. Buy a bike, point it towards work, start pedalling
If it wasn't for these sort of threads the Commuting section would be a very quiet one

Hehe, you forgot this classic:
http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12686200
At least this thread has something to do with cycling unlike any of those above.
DDD's thread also tend to last a *tiny* bit longer.......
I suspect tho that much like me due to the diverse range of threads posted on Commuting DDD probably doesn't tend to stray far from here as the discussions and threads are generally quite entertaining :-)0
