Vitorria Pave or corsa tubs

I've a new set of 50mm carbon wheels on order from Derek @ wheelsmith. The question now is what tubs to stick on?

I'm thinking about the Vitorria Pave's or Corsa's. I've never had tubs before, so i don't want to ruin the experience by being puncture prone. I know the Pave's (24mm - 270g) are a little bit heavier than the corsas (23mm - 250g , but are they worth sticking on for added peace of mind?

Wheels are mainly to be used for TT and open road racing, but also on club runs on nice days....

The road surfaces hear are often not great....and when road racing, my experience is that wheels and tyres can take a bashing as people are often on the rivet and either don't see or have time to call on obstructions potholes and you can end up piling into stuff at high speed that you wouldn't normally hit...

  • First, both tubs are excellent choices!

At this time of year for the use you describe, I'd go for the 24mm Pave EVO CG IIs (with the 320tpi casing) for better puncture resistance and wet grip. As the weather improves and you wear them out, switch to the Corsa EVO CX IIs in 23mm. There's negligible weight difference between the 21mm and 23mm Corsas (10g IIRC) and the ride is much better on the 23mm I reckon. Puncture resistance is also materially better than the older 290tpi CXs.

Also, I'd caution against running them at very high pressures as they're less comfortable and tend to flat more frequently. I ride them at 100psi F/R in the dry (77kg), 90/95 in the wet.
