Choosing some comfy new handlebars - how?

I've got a pair of Deda Big Pega handlebars on my Condor Bivio. I think they're a 44. I find them rather uncomfortable. Too big in every dimension really.
I think what I'm after is probably a compact handlebar, in a 42. Question is, how on earth do I work out which one to buy. I want to spend around £50. I want it to be comfortable, and I enjoy riding in the drops. The top bar needs to be reasonably comfy, my 105 levers are really in charge of how it feels up there, so that's not the bar's fault, but the drops are. The current handlebars are too skiny and too big in terms of spread out. (The bar itself having just a bit too small a diameter).
So, how do I find a comfortable, right size, rightish price pair of handlebars that will be comfy for riding to work, and winter training. I prefer a road riding aerodynamic position rather than an upright more touring position, if that makes any difference.
All help much appreciated. There are plenty of reviews of bars online, but it's the comparison between bars, that's missing and that I'd love to know.

Looking at a Syntace 7075 31.8 The UK dealer thinks they're really well made and I must say, the shape and geometry looks to be what I'm looking for.
Has anyone tried Syntace? The cheaper 2014 gets 5* in BikeRadar's review, but the 7075 which is an upgrade (stiffer and lighter) isn't mentioned. The 2014 only comes in a 26mm clamp, or I'd get that, but the 7075 apparently is available in a 31.8mm so I can fit it without needing to buy a new stem.Summer - Cannondale Six Ultegra

I must have tried at least half a dozen different bars both rounded and anatomic and have found they are either right on the tops or on the drops but not both.
I have just fitted some "Deda Fluida" as mentioned in the other thread and they are finally what i have been looking for. Compact reach and drop, nice curve, flat tops so once taped up they are nice and thick feeling. Oh, and less than £30
I did try the FSA Omega a while ago but i felt they were very heavy and did not like the way they flare out at the bottom. He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
Just got a 3T ergonova in 44cm. Normally I'm a 42.
Flat top bars with very comfy drops.0
