Well it was all going too well really!

Out last night, coming down a hill and hit a bend at about 20mph that I've done before without problems. It's recently been relaid with nice smooth tarmac and this was the first time i'd done it since. It was a little greasy and the bike went sideways from under me and skidded for a couple of meters.

Leg warmers ruined, Jacket ruined, base layer ruined, shorts survived! :D

Left brake and gear shifter is bent inwards and rear deraileur (sp) out of shape.

I only got the bike in November

    ouch, sad to hear.
you should be all right regarding the brake and gear shifters as you can adjust them with a screw under the hoods.
apart from the damage to your clothing did it do any damage to you?
  • Excellent, that is out of the way then. Sounds similar to mine - had the bike a month, came off on a slidey corner, went down holding the hoods and the left one snapped my 3rd metacarpal (I think?) in my thumb. Of course, trashed bar tape, scuffed ergo and QR, but bike was OK really, new bib tights trashed and jacket has war wounds now. Annoying thing was walking home because left hand was useless. Got cleaned up and went to docs who thought it might be dislocated and thought about popping it back in - glad she decided not too. Couple of pins and a Caribbean holiday in a cast!
  • Glad to hear your O.K.

Don't let it effect your confidence though. :)

Roscobob, glad to hear you are OK, that is the main thing, bikes can be fixed or bought.

Second that, as soon as you have the bike sorted you need to get out again...Pete

good that your okay but you can now be considered a proper roadie, I did similar a few weeks back, got straight back on the after checking the bike was okay and off I went . When I got home I checked myself out, just a bit of road rash and ripped biblongs and jacket. Got them sewn up as they are still perfectly usable and buy new ones for next winter.

i had my first crash i think 4 days after getting my bike, went round a roundabout too fast in the wet and the bike skidded away. mech hanger got a little bent and the shifter housing cracked and a nice scrape all up my thigh. A kindly runner happened to be stretching on the pavement and helped pick me off the ground. I wasnt hardcore enough for a savlon bath! arrrrghh

Glad ur alright. Sounds a much more respectable tumble than the one i had a couple of days ago. Doing hill intervals and on the 4th one, for the first time ever, my chain decided to slip off the small ring, couldn't get unclipped in time and had a pathetic slow-mo fall :D

Nearly happened once more about a hundred metres later when the chain came off again, put an end to my night!

Bike getting fixed this week, hope to be out as soon as possible.

Dave it happened coming in to Dalgety Bay at the roundabout mate. Nothing coming so came bombing down towards it, turned in and skidded sideways when I hit the drain cover which was wet for some reason.

That's it out the way though. Conceptual_primate's one was WAY more embarrassing
