RS SID Race Questions and Help !!

Im a newbie here and I really need some help.
I just bought a like new 2004 Rock Shox SID Race Dual Air Rear Shock and I loosened per the manual the red rebound knob 6 turns cc and it started shooting oil, I tightened it and it does not leak oil or air. Im using an air compressor to add air and checking it with a regular tire gauge. Its difficult, but it works.
My questions are:
Is it normal for the red rebound knob to leak or purge oil when loosened ?
Should I relieve all pressure and add oil to the shock ?
Do I need to get an actual shock pump or special guage to add air and check psi ?
What exactly does the oil do ?
Can I just add a little shock oil or wd-40 ?
Thanks, and any assistance would help.

They can leak oil - but it can come from two places, around the bolt or through it as it is hollow to allow the adjuster through. The latter is the damper leaking and it will need servicing.
Do not add oil if you don't know the volumes, and where to put it. This fork has the Pure Damper, a sealed cartridge which needs bleeding from time to time. Keep WD40 well away!
Oil is the damping medium.
A shock pump is a better bet to achieve the pressures the fork needs.
I would contact TF tuned - the fork sounds like it needs a service and maybe some seals replacing.0 -

Thanks for the reply. The service guide is for the Fork and not the Shock.
This is the Rear Shock and not the Fork.
Does that change anything in regards to the hardware ?0 -
You still need the shock pump.
Hopefully the SRAM pages will have the service guide, but the damper this time may not be user serviceabl, only the air can..0
