Lately if've been cutting my shins to pieces on my local trails - Brambles. Is there anyone else out there who wear shin pads to save getting blood everywhere. I think it's a bit whimpy but my legs don't.

Anyone with similar thoughts???

I used to run shin pads but hated not getting the pedalling efficancy I wanted so I now only use knee pads.

I have three scars on my right leg already in the space of a week

Pain is temporary though. If I can ride for longer then its worth it

I wouldn't wear shin guards against brambles .... trousers maybe?
Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day

Just thought there might have been an option to avoid my shins looking like a cat scratching post - but there we are what the hell live life a day at a time.

The brambles up here tend to be around forearm height rather than shin height.

As a result it looks like I am into self harm come the summer with all of the scratches on my arms...

    One word : Yes

Everytime I go out I come back with several (between 2-12) small scratches on my legs (always wear shorts). When riding I never notice it, afterwards I don't either tbh :)

So unless you like having your legs scratch-free no point really!

    MTFU!
I'm not normally one for macho posturing, but scabs and scars are an occupational hazard of mountain biking, I'm afraid.

In a few years time, I can imagine myself and some biking buddies sitting down for a few drinks and re-creating the scene from Jaws, where they compare scars. (Sad, isn't it?)
