So my Punto Active which is 5 years old is having its MOT tomorrow, tis my first car bought off my step dad.

No problems that I know of but it's a fiat which I'm told are crap. Will it pass?

    Not a chance.

You'll probably crash it on the way to the garage.

I voted yes as I am an optimist
  • I voted no to be cruel

Seriously though I hope it passes!

My car is due for MOT soon, it cost me £100 last week for something - hopefully there wont be anything else wrong with it!

If it's anything like my Punto, then you're probably gonna have it fail. Saying that, when my MOT has failed, it hasn't cost me too much to get fixed.

    Let us know the outcome.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Sorry mate, but I voted no.

My philosophy is always to go to a MOT thinking your car will fail, which it will invariably.

    If it doesn't then WOOHAY!

If it does, then at least you were prepared for it and you just hope the bill ain't too big.

Purely depends on whether it's been looked after or whether it just gets tick-list servicing. A vehicle should pass its MOT without issue every time or something's wrong with how it's kept. IMO ;)

But also, do try and find an MOT place that doesn't do repairs- that way they've got no motivation to fail you. My dad got failed for brake pads last year and the garage overcharged for fitting to boot- I'd fitted new pads less than a month before, they'd barely have been scuffed in, thieving ****s.

Good bit of advice there, especially if a young lady takes the car for the MOT, some look upon them as easy prey.

Mrs AL's car failed on an outer CV boot last week.
Granted it did have a minute split, and needed replacing, what boiled my pi$$ is that the "mechanic" told her that it was a very difficult job to change the CV boot, and the best part of a days work if done by a "professional" :?

Cost me £4.09 for a boot, £6.35 for some g/box oil and just under 2 hours to complete the job.

    Professional, my ar$e !

Sorry for being negative, but isn't it FixItAgainTrevor?

Well, at least it's not french.... When I took my old saxo vtr for an mot thinking I needed 2 new tyres, turned out it needed welding back together costing more than it was worth!

If all else fails, ebay it!

I've got a Peugeot, which, apart from a CV boot, has been flawless. *touch wood*

How much worse can the Italians be!?

It was a long time ago but Dad's brand new Lancia Beta Turbo was:

    Rusty on delibery
On it's third engine after 18 months.

Rather put me off Italian cars!

The inlaws 355 was also so flimsy, it regularly fell to bits.

Jap or German for reliability - apart from Toyota...
