Replacement front mech advice?

The 7 speed RSX front mech on my road bike is playing up, not sure if it has had it or needs a thorough clean.

As a stop gap I have been offered a replacement however this is a 10 speed one.

I am thinking this 'should' work as its the pull from my STI's that determine how far the mech moves. Or is the design of the 10 speed mech to different to work?

Any advice appreciated.

Regards

Trevor

Should be OK as long as they're both the same make.

10 speed chains are more narrow.

    I don't think a 7 speed chain will work

I did think about the chain size.

One is an RSX, the other 105 so both shimano.

Will give it a try as I will have nothing to lose.

Then again 24 hours covered in degreaser has made the existing mech more more freely so it might not be needed.

7spd chain is the same as an 8spd chain so something like this would work

Front ders have little to go wrong with them. I would lubricate well and then with the chain on the small ring, pull the cable away from the frame so moving the der over its full range. Do this until you are satisfied that it travels easily over the full distance of its travel.
