Weekend away suggestions

Me and some mates looking at going away to a trail centre further up north than we usually do (tend to ride the Quantocks/South Wales centres). Been looking at Glentress (very far but it’ll be an adventure!), the Lake District as well as Llandega and Coed y brenin. Any suggestions as to what should be our number one choice? Trip will probably be early summer but trying to organise now... Will take a couple of days off work so distance not too big an issue (Glentress probably the furthest we'd go mind)

Anywhere the most Afan-esque would be good

wouldent stay around llandegla if its just trail centre riding your after: not enouth to keep you occupied for a few days and not much apre-ride interest (as a local i can say that), lots of good riding around c-y-b; would second the guy from newp there if N wales appeals...

CYB, The Marin, Penmachno, all 40mins from my front door. ( Why'd you think I live ere??)
We do 8 berth self-catering, but booking up fast.

    Local "secret" XC stuff too.
  • Have a skeg at these guys http://www.dalesmountainbiking.co.uk/ top notch accomodation + cafe, pub within spitting distance and some of the best scenery and trails in the land IMHO. Their carrot cake is amazing and they're really nice people too.

    Can't recommend them enough

I have done both and they are both great.

CYB we stayed at a bb about 10 mins away and did 3 and a half days riding.

CYB itself is good and did one trail ( tarw ) when we arrived we also did the beast which was good, for me I prefer afan but not by allot.

We also did Marin trail and llandegla in a day which was pretty good

On the last day we did the Climax trail on the way home really good.

    Scotland

Glentress is fantsatic....better than CYB for me and has more than afan and of the same quality if not better ( longer single track sections)
Did all of the red, black and parts of the Blue on the first day

We then did kiroughtree on the second day , this is a stunning ride, hard work but more than worth it but is long and proabably all day for most riders. That said make the 2 hour trip from glentress its very cool.

We also did the inerleithen xc which for me is one of my favorites ever. We then went back and did some more Glentress before flying home in the afternoon.

We flew and hired a van, worked really well as BA do not charge for bikes and the airport is easy to sat nav from to peebles where we stayed ( cross keys hotel Cheap and in need of decoration but had a Pub).

If i went again to either i would be happy but Glentress would be my preference as there is so much riding there and nearby ,we did not even do Mabie , AE, Dalbeatie etc.

More dirt is a good website for trail info as well as the seven stanes site itself.

    Hope this helps.
